As my main gaming machine is stuck in a warehouse in god-knows-where, with no hard drive, supposedly being fixed under warranty by a company that has now gone bust, I am having to use my old machine for all purposes.
This creates a problem in many quarters, especially school work, and FS2ing. For instance, it only has a 1.5Gb drive, hardly enough to install FS, let alone FS2. However, my GCSE graphics project is based on FS, and in concequence I need to be able to produce FS art. To do this I need access to the VP files. This is fine for FS1, the vps are on the CD, but for FS2 they are encoded in some strange manner. If I open one of the root VPs in VPViewer I just get one file in the list:
game_dat2.set
Now, this is no use whatsoever, so does anyone have a way of getting round this, short of trying to install the game?
If not, then could someone zip and e-mail me the pofs and pcx files for the Hecate, HercII, Sath, Colossus, and Hapshetsut, thanx.:D

I've never had a problem opening FS VPs in VPView32 at all.........did you get any error messages?
-
There is no error message, the porblem only occurs when I try to open FS2 VP directly from the CD. I belive it is because 2 or more Vp are grouped together in one VP file. It doesn't matter now, however, as I manged to install the game on minimal.

Actually, the problem is that the VP files you can see on the CD aren't the ones you need. The core vp files are stored in the compressed cab files and you need to install to get them. (That includes the high-res pack.)

Ahh, I can see clearly now...
It doesn't matter now anyway 'cos I managed to clear enough space to do a basic install, then delete it excpet for the VPs.

yeah, you can't open VP files from the CD, you have to install the game first :)
