Since some kind soul posted for us in WHIYL and thus my wallet was opened, I figure we might as well have a thread about it. Where hopefully yall can talk me out of some purchases. I'm tempted by Rage for $10. However it's metacritic user score is almost as bad as ME3. I understand not living up to hype, but I'd like to hear from people who have played it (nuke?) if it's actually that terribad. Buying horrible games pisses me off, no matter how cheap they are. I'm still fuming about the $12 I spent on the PC port of Halo 2 (actually close to 20 after shipping). I already bought stalker, FEAR 3, and both bioshocks. FEAR I expect to be poor, but I'm kinda intrigued by the psychic powers thing and I was such a huge fan of the first generation of FEAR games. 2 even had its moments despite being disappointing on the whole. I have high hopes for the other 3 though.
And after delving back into steam for the first time since probably last summer, i was reminded i have the whole X/X2/X3 pack I haven't touched yet. And Red Faction II/Guerrilla. And Nexus that I haven't gone back to after getting pissed off at it. Or Fallout from GOG.
Son of a ***** why am I buying new games!? It's even worse now that I have a meaningful amount of disposable income. I've even been trying to convince myself to either replace my 6950 or get a second one for crossfire. SOMEONE SAVE ME.
.... So yeah, Steam summer sale. Share opinions on games/post the sneaky hidden deals on good games here. KOTOR for $2.49 for the next 20-odd hours.

rage probably isn't worth it. The animation and ai is very good. the story and characters are pretty bad. The guns are cool, and the customized ammo that you can build for them out of parts leads to some truly entertaining moments. the racing is also fun, but other than that there is not use for the vehicles besides gettong from point to point quickly. there is nothing to do in the wasteland besides go from place to place. The graphics are pretty good. There are some very entertaining british gangsta bandits. the ending/final mission is worse than me3's without the extended cut. This is somewhat mitigated by the fact that rage didnt really push the story hard anyway. Its interesting for a few things, but there are probably better games to spend that 10$ on
heh i have kotor 2 for the hexbox. tempted to pick up the 2nd one for the pc mods
edit: man so not cool. I want to buy so many of these, but I really really really shouldn't. but I want to!steam is bad. . .
edit2: why is homeworld not on steam? is it worth it anyway to get it off amazon or something?
edit3: is the original dawn of war and all its expansions worth getting? I have DoW2 and its expansions and I like those a lot
edit4: what about half life?
-
Original DoW is much more company-of-heros whereas new one is more...I dunno, MechCommander.
-
wellll..... I haven't played either of those though company of heroes is on my might get list
-
It's basically more like a classical RTS with base building and lots of units.
-

Probably because THQ never bothered to put it in. And yeah, the HW series is definitely worth getting if you like the genre. There are demos available for all three games IIRC if you want to try them out (pretty sure there's one for HW1 at least).

Put it on your "Get" list. When Relic made DoW2 they shrunk down CoH's scale and a bit of the charm got lost. Be sure to grab the Gold edition though with CoH and Opposing Fronts.
EDIT: Plus CoH has awesome mods. DoW2 doesn't.

hmm its on sale for 2.49$ today

As I have been playing lots of ME3 multi lately, and still have to start The Witcher, I have thus far avoided buying anything is this summer's Steam sale.
That said, if either Clear Sky or Pripyat go on sale for 90% off or so then I'm be convinced to buy them.
-
Got Portal 2 for $5, already beat it, so much better than a $10 movie.
-
tracked down copies of homeworld, and homeworld 2. also bought company of heroes
-
European Escalation is on sale. That's probably worth it.
Disappointed they didn't discount Rebellion with the Stardock pack.
-
Oh, and if you like CoH, you should probably notice that Company of Heros 2 has a steam store page now.
Still no sign of the new X-COM, though
-
I'm just waiting to see if that big ARMA pack goes on more than 20% sale...
-
Too...many...impulse...purchases...

haha I had a bunch of stuff in my cart, before I made myself empty all of it
and NGTM-1R rebellion is now 25% off for daily deal
looking at crisis collection, total war bundle, and star wars battlefront 2 for the mods
-
Hey, everybody. Stalker package is $11.19 for the whole shebang. Call of Pripyat is $3.74, Shadow of Chernobyl is $5.
-
Total War series (minus Shogun 2) is on 75% off sale for the next 34 hours.
A couple of days ago, I bought Civ 4, Civ 5, and Nexus for myself.
-
are the total war series good/worth getting?

well i got chernobyl yesterday, so i missed out on the $0.03 savings for the bundle. nuts.

Yes, very much so. If you like strategy/tactics games. You know, like building and commanding massive armies, charging elephants into the flanks of infantry, firing explosive siege missiles into tightly packed ranks of enemies, pitting tactics against strength, and arrows against horses.
If you've never played one before, I'd recommend Rome or Medieval 2.

Goddammit, this is putting me real close to my spending limit...
-
Sooo many games I wanna buy... but no computer to play them on. I think I'll pass... :(
-
Sigh. I bought the witcher 2 three weeks ago before I knew about the summer sale. of course now its only 16 dollars.
-
got myself dungeon defenders 4-pack. that game is much more fun than it should be.
-
I...have bought WAY more games in the past few days than any sane person should. I have a love/hate relationship with Steam Summer Sales....
On the bright side, the Sega collection is awesome. So many old school games that I used to play on the Genesis, back in the day. Mmmmm, Bio-Hazard Battle. Vectorman. Golden Axe. So awesome.

I escaped the past few days, but fuuuuuuuu, Burnout Paradise for $4. I always had a blast when I played my brother's copy of Burnout 3 on the PS2, and Paradise is supposed to be in the same vein.
-
This looks cool... bought it http://store.steampowered.com/app/71000/
Also Quantum Conundrum is on sale too.

Now THAT's getting me interested. Had both B3 and paradise on my old XBox, it'll be a blast to replay them on my new PC :)

play it and report back before the sale ends.
i thought it looked interesting also, but the reviews say it's like a not-quite-as-good version of the X series, which i bought last steam sale and have yet to play. so i figured i don't need to add to that collection.
-
Wat?
Quantum Conundrum is similar to the amazing game that is Portal, and isn't bad at all.
Nothing like the abomination that is the X series.
-
You might want to read that post again. :p
-
Oh.. didn't click the link, assumed it was QC :<
Yea, that game is actually worse than X =\ Quite the achievement.
-
Picked up both Portal games and now have finally had some time to play them. Kicking myself for not playing them sooner, possibly among the best games I've ever played. Too many developers now a days feel the need to fill their games with bs side quest and other crap to add to the overall length. These games are proof that if you nail the main part of the game just right, you don't need the filler crap. Hell I played through the second one twice in the same week. I litterally could not stop playing and it has been a really long time since I've had that kind of experience.
