I think this will become a freemium/total MP-oriented again. But let's see.

Cool beans

Awesome!

Now all we need is somebody to make a new EarthSiege game and the Holy Mecha Trinity will be restored.

I'm still hoping they'll put Hercs into Tribes Ascend
http://youtu.be/G5E_gqXUoOE?t=1m2s they did record sound bits for the announcers for it! (also at 2:00 and 3:17)

Little lord Peter
was missing his leader
While Hercy played in the red.
Down came the gltches
and burned us in ditches
And we slept after eating our dead......

If they do that, I might actually decide to play Tribes!

Amen to that!

To my shame, I've never actually played Heavy Gear.
At least on PC.
I could tell you all kinds of stuff about the DP9 game from the good old days, although I'm told that the current edition of Heavy Gear/Gear Krieg had some teething troubles.
-
Has anyone ever got the modern HG running on their PC? I picked up the disks off eBay but couldn't get it going. Can't remember if I needed some sort of dosbox config or something
-
I remember HG2 having problems on Win7.
-
I wish they'd get that stuff on GOG.com, I'd pick it up in an instant. Only ever played the demo for HG1
-

Heavy Gear 2 has had even problems on XP.
Some of the Keybindings doesn't work.

StarSiege also had similar problems, but a community patch was made. Has the Heavy Gear community attempted an HG2 patch of their own? (Is there even a living HG community?)
I always remember Heavy Gear being a distant third against the MechWarrior juggernaught and Sierra's well-made Battletech clone.
But EarthSiege 2 is in even worse shape, it can only be played from an early Pentium Processor, no AMD, No Pentium 4s. Straight Up Pentium 1 or 2.

i don't know nothing about the Heavy Gear Community, but the debugging guide is still online:

:bump: !
From the game's official Facebook page (now it's officially known as Heavy Gear Assault) :
1000 Likes! For 1 EPIC Leak! Spread the word!

I think I had a copy of the disc which frequently crashed during some random events on my old WinME computer, and even then it has troubles on XP. Unless that was common.
Hoo boy, stealth in a Mech Gear again. In 2, I pretty much went Gatling Laser/Heavy Bazooka/Very Heavy AC (I liked Anti-Air Cannons because they were accurate and stuff, but they were as loud as crack). Ahh, still reminds me of the days if you get knocked over and a LOT of your HUD elements and other internal equipment went offline. (I didn't bring backup perks, I just bring reinforced internals, Stealth and EXO Armor).
-
Incidentally I got both HG1 and 2 off ebay years a couple years back, but couldn't get HG1 to work. Maybe there's a fix online I can try out. Couple old games that I Can't get working! darn it PC!
-
The sooner it ends up on Gog the better.
-
I made sure to hang on to my Aunt's old eMachines eOne - Darn thing got eMachines sued, and so they never made any updated drivers beyond what was on the disc, but it's got Windows 98 and an early Celeron, which means Heavy Gear 1 and most of the other old mech games run well enough.
-
So... everyone knows MekTek (http://www.mektek.net/index.php) is involved in this, right? Should be good stuff, even if its Heavy Gear and therefore the inferior smashy robot franchise. :p

Might be months and months late, but the thought of someone, especially HiRez, dusting off the 'siege IP makes me a very sad cupcake. :nono:

AFIAK Activison used for Heavy Gear 1 the old Engine of Mechwarrior 2 - maybe a guide for running Mechwarrior 2 under XP has some solutions what also work with HG 1 ?
An point of concern are the Cutscene Videos from Heavy Gear, if they are played from the CD (that´s also a problem with Heavy Gear 2, together with some audio files).
-
even if its Heavy Gear
Have you, perchance, had any contact with DP9 in the last few years?
They're a disaster. I said the last edition had teething troubles. That was before I tried playing it or talked to any of the testers. It's terrible. The company is a wreck, the only people left from the glory days are in accounting, it's real bad. Release schedule is gone, quality is gone.
It hurts me to say it, but the company's terminal. I don't want to see it propped up by this game.

Isn't it run by some former fans or something?
Suppose that strategy has more/less worked for battletech but maybe not so much for Heavy Gear? I dunno. Too bad.

Not unless you consider the accounting department former fans.

Well I thought there was a demo guy originally from alberta or saskatchewan who sort of took over line development from the original creators. This was a few years back.
One thing I had heard recently is that the . .Jovian Chronicles minis got canned? Or the entire battle system? (Lightning Strike) Not sure about the RPG side of things.
