Not that HLP isn't good enough, just wondering what else is out there? What forums and communities do you frequent? I'm getting tired of reddit, and besides that and here I generally use HomebuiltAirplanes and occasionally conceptart.org, with a smattering of Luxology's forums.

www.sfdt.com
I post animations there and visit the forums. They've been lacking life these past few, but those who are left try to make do
If everyone here were to join there and just shoot the ****, that'd be awesome

I spend a lot of my time aroung the BattleTech forums (http://bg.battletech.com/forums/), and more recently the Leviathans forums (http://forums.monstersinthesky.com/index.php). I actually hold the spot for "Most time spent online" for the Leviathans one, by almost four days. It's actually kind of sad when I think about it.
-
Something Awful forums are pretty damn good. Very tightly moderated with good posting encouraged and **** posting crushed. The banhammer flies fast and loose, forcing people to actually think (usually) before writing something. Also has great smilies. (http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-allears.gif)
Reddit on the other hand, is absolutely terrible. A bunch of smug little assholes who think they're way smarter than they actually are scrambling over each other for upvotes. :nono:
-
It's funny when I meet people from reddit and when 4chan is mentioned they will always reply with a 'ugh' or 'ew' even though 99% of the humor reddit uses comes straight out of 4chan's asshole and reddit manages to make meme's unfunny within a week.
-
I hang out a bit in #spawn on a certain quaking network...

What username do you use on the BT forum? I'm as Sarafan there, man, been a long time since I've posted there. :blah:

QFT! Those people think way, way too highly of themselves.

Hipocrisy ftw!
I hang out mostly of here and lurk on reddit or 4chan out of boredom and warhammer forums (warseer, dakkadakka).

Besides the obvious Sectorgame, my main other hangout at this point is the [adult swim] forums; I've been there for several years and have something of a small community role. I make the occasional post on OverClocked ReMix, which is mostly TF2-related, since I play that and L4D2 with a bunch of people from there. I did a decent amount of posting on Anime News Network in the past, but I haven't been on there for a while. There were a few others that have mostly disappeared or fallen by the wayside.
Oh, and there's also the Descent Bulletin Board, but I think that's more of an exercise in frustration than anything else. :p

Skim Online Message Board (http://www.skimonline.com/forum), but I'm not sure why. The off-topic section is basically like reddit. Or so I assume based on what I hear about it, as I've never once visited reddit. Pretty much all of the regulars ARE the retards on reddit. They always come in with links to their posts bragging about how witty they think they are and brofists are passed around. The actual skim areas of the board are filled with these same ****ers trolling and abusing new members, bad advice flying everywhere, intentional or not, and a LOT of new users posting the same questions time after time, kinda like our "when is FS3 coming out?" If you ever decide you want to take up skimboarding, stay FAR away from this message board until you've got a decent bit of experience. If I had found this place first, I never would have started. I guess the reason I go back is you can occasionally pick up good info from the couple of old legends and industry guys that are there, and to look out for general news and any interesting new videos. Like this one. (http://vimeo.com/40385304)
The only other board I go to is a small offshoot of a band's message board a long time ago. No link, I'm not inflicting any of you guys on that board :P

I spend a lot of time on Spacebattles (http://forums.spacebattles.com/) Their creative writing section has produced some real jewels. But watch out for the invasive cancer that is Brony.
-
Other than here, all I really frequent is probably xda, 4chan (/g/,/k/,/sci/,/v/ | in order of frequency) and I lurk the **** out of Slashdot. Used to hit ZDaemon and Doomworld up frequently, but they've slowed down lately.
With that list I guess I must be immune to ****posting.

I have 5000 posts on abovetopsecret.com. :pimp: No, I am not a big conspiracy nut, they are mostly skeptical..

In a similar vein, I frequent the subreddits /r/conspiratard and /r/enoughpaulspam which is based on mocking websites like this and the nonsense they peddle.
Other than that, I'm on a social networking site for certain kinds of people. It's one of the ways I try to keep myself socially active.

Honestly I think the we're-too-cool-for-this backlash against bronies is far more annoying than bronies themselves could ever be.

You clearly haven't spent much time around the worst kind of bronies.
-
The same can be said for every other group of everything ever. It shouldn't prompt a backlash against the entire group.

Okay, I'll bite.
I would suggest that a disproportionately large number of "bronies" are of the worst variety. Bronyism is akin to ironic fad-like fanboyism turned into actual "way-of-life ™" It's the worst kind of meme that has taken a life of its own. It will die down as they all do, and it will be nice. Until then, it will ravage the internet like the plague that it is, and eventually end up on 9gag to die a slow painful death.
EDIT: Just to mention, I watched the brony movement start. It was mostly ironic ****posting of "General MLP" threads on /b/ every ****ing 30 minutes for a few weeks straight. It spread like wildfire from there.
-
Had a witty post. Ran out of motivation to post it.
Plague-bearer, exiting thread.

I apologize if I seem rude. I have no issue with someone enjoying the show, or enjoying the fan work related to it. I still enjoy the **** out of cartoons sometimes.
What I DO have an issue with is those who parade it around as a way of life in a non-satirical way, or treat it as a fetish that the world needs to know about. It's like someone walking up to you and deciding all they want to talk about is their foot fetish and how much fun it is. Yeah, we get it. You like something different. Good job. The people who do this treat it religiously, and get quickly and easily offended if you simply don't like what they like. They frequently don't even know how the "movement" started. After meeting these folks IRL, I can't bear them.
Yeah I'm a bit mad. Blame my bias on being near the heart of the MLP craze from its inception.
Sorry if I offend. :(
EDIT: Last post on the matter, I don't want to derail the thread any more.

what the **** are bronies? :wtf:

No! Dont ask! You'll regret it!

I do frequent very specific Gamefaqs boards that are not quite as ****ty as the rest of the boards. Why I go there, I'm not sure. But sometimes some legitimately good and/or funny discussions pop up there.
It's more recent, but I've also joined raocow's Talkhaus. Small little gaming community centered around... well, raocow. Because he's awesome.
I also edit TvTropes way too much. That site is addictive.
Spacebattles... I'm there every now and again. I will second that there are some real gems of creative writing there.

The first forum I ever really became heavily invested in was X-Plane.org, which of course revolves around doing things with the X-Plane flight simulator. I still paruse the forums regularly, but I've not made much an effort to really get a new project going. Why do my hobbies, which I consider fun, require so much strenuous effort to conduct?
I became a member on the Starshatter mods forum after the project went open source, but I did not much care for the principle admin of the site after an exchange of dialogue pretaining to understanding how things work in the software. I moved away from the site at that point, really. I've had other less-than-cheery echanges on forums, and I in fact made an example of the FreeFalcon forums in the Stellar Assault board for what a project "should not be." I've grown to like their odd mannerisms, however, and I still regularly browse their forum. They seem to have become a much more tame location in recent months, which is quite nice.
Lastly, I think if I join a new forum, ww2aircraft.net may be the next one. In my myriad aviation research interests, that forum has come up many times, provides absolutely wonderful information, and is very well moderated so far as I can tell. But, for most matters, HLP covers most of the bases. :)
-
I EVEwatch over on the unmitigated neverending flamewar that is kugutsumen. I also offer occasional commentary on sectorgame and the MechWarrior Online forums.
-
I post a bit on a piloting forum called PPRuNe, but only on a specific thread, and post semi-frequently on an Australian Military forum which no-one here would've heard about.
I've been on HLP since I was about 14 or 15 years old, and have basically grown up on this forum. It's thanks to a handful of members here that I'm the open-minded kind of liberal that I am today and not the close-minded lazy-conservative I was as a kid growing up here, and have at least a passable level of maturity. Honestly,
...for most matters, HLP covers most of the bases. :)
Unrelated: I should also get back on IRC...
-
here mostly, but in addition I occasionally log onto
www.mwtactics.com - MechWarrior Tactics forum was pretty active, now lurk
www.deviantart.com - art type stuff, mostly lurk and fave at the moment
ufoai.org - occasionally drop a useless comment
blacklight.perfectworld.com - lurker mostly
-
Besides HLP, I sometimes go to wildfiregames.com/0ad <--- It's about an Open Source Historical RTS game, and watching the development there is like watching a mod here: It feels awesome. There are already public Alphas and mods released, and anyone can chip in, too. Still, I mostly lurk there. HLP consumes most of my net time.
I used to check out MechWarrior Online, but the forumites became elitists and (from what I've heard) more Reddit-like, and the amount of complaining became too unbearable for me.
-
i kinda lurk around the ksp forums and i do follow hackaday. but other than that i keep my web presence rather small.
-
I hang out at Overclock.net (OCN) (http://www.overclock.net/) when I'm not here. Whole different atmosphere, let me tell ya.
-
I still frequent http://affuniverse.com/forums/ (http://affuniverse.com/forums/), it was in fact the first online community I ever joined, followed by HLP (technically, I registered on BSN before HLP but I never use the dam thing.)
The community is on life support, mostly due to all work nowdays being codewise and the bazillions of bot demnons that ravage the forums with spam to hire Asian prostitutes. :D
AFF Planetstorm does look pretty sweet though...
-
Relicnews (http://forums.relicnews.com/forum.php) is a nice place. Very similar to this place: small, mature community originally devoted to a cult game. Homeworld, in its case.
Also posted on the MWO forums, but like SypheDeMar, the constant complaining got really tiresome. These days, I check in only for beta patch news.
I read the Something Awful Let's Play forum as well, but I've never wanted to post enough to pay 10$ for the privilege.
An4ximandros: Oh gods, AFF. Incredible universe, that. Deserves so much more attention than it gets. The HW2 mod was top notch.
-
The Aff Devs are incredibly awesome people, they even had a small contest where the most regular players would have their names on the starships on Planetstorm, a guy called swift and I had a friendly rivalry going on and would always have duels with the ships named after us! :D
Good times... :(
-
I spend most of my social time on the internet now with my small tight knit community of real-life (well, a lot of them met on the internet, but there's always a strong RL component) friends who all moved away from each other (aside from the ones who are going to marry each other), along with the occasional friends of someone who join the clan. I never found a replacement for this place. It's lightning in a bottle to pull off.
-

They brainwashed you good, welcome to the hlp hivemind :p
-
I prefer the term, 'indoctrinated'. :D
-
quite the contrary, hanging out here has only served to solidify my conservative... ness.
