:nervous: We have not seen anything for quite a while. While it could obviously be, that BluePlanet WiH2 is just waiting to shockjump us when 3.6.14 is released, why the silence? You wrote an update for ModDB a wwwhhhiiilllleee ago, describing the status for the project. Why not at least update us, your loyal fans, once again? No reveals but an information update, a status report. How far is this oh so anticipated project?

Being a beta tester, I can say with certainty that activity is there, nearly on a daily basis, and I only see the beta forum and beta SVN, which means there's probably even more activity going on in parts I can't reach.
It's like usual. It'll be done when it's done.
I won't say more, it's the dev's call to see if they want say more, but what I can tell you is that you are not going to be disappointed.
-
Well, there's not much to tell, really. We are still developing missions and stuff, just not at the pace we were able to maintain previously. That being said, WiH Release 2 is more than half-done at this point, and quite a few of the missions are in the "locked for polishing" stage already.

Probably closer to two-thirds.

The E: Not a good position for the Imperieuse to be in...
Maybe this is part of the attack on Mars we've been hearing about?
And are those glowing orange missile things above and below the Imperieuse capship missile countermeasures?
-
12.6 FPS.
:shaking:
-
I blame E's hardware. I usually get solid 30 and above when not recording. The mission in question here is a bit taxing though.
Also, duuuude 12FPS is plenty. I played and beat DE in Hard below 5fps back on my old laptop. Stop *****ing !
-
i'm very framerate sensitive. if it drops below 40-50, depending on the game, i notice the stutter. and it drives me NUTS. the few games i've played that hard-lock at 30 drive me nearly insane.

And I blame the debug build, which is most likely enabled in this shot (I don't think anybody enables the FPS counter on normal builds). Debugger can eat framerate in a really annoying way, to the point that there exist missions that are fine (though with noticeable stutter and occasional lags) in normal builds are nigh unplayable in debug. Especially problematic if you want to debug such a mission.

Argggg minor spoilers!!!!!
Now I will be expecting the Solaris Titan Tango at some point! It ruins erythin!!!! :banghead:
Though on a more serious note I'm glad I've now got another screenshot I can use as a background, BP wallpapers rock.
-
Don't you worry, what you see here is ridiculously minor in the grand scheme of things...
-
Well, I am totally satisfied with the response, thanks. The only thing that would have been better if you posted without me creating this thread.

Me too. And that's why I am using a GTX680 at the moment ;7

This may be a little off topic, but regarding framerate is there anyone who was able to get a decent framerate in that bonus mission where the UEF and GTVA have a giant line engagement?
Mind you I'm not running an uberpowerful rig but when I stumbled across that for the first time a few days ago I was stunned by how terrible the framerate got, though for obvious and understandable reasons. I was laughing my ass off at the giant clusterf*** of beams and explosions to much to care all that much though.

That mission is the Doom3 or Crysis of FS2 in that you need top end tech to run at a decent rate and non existent tech to make run on maximum settings, many mid and low end systems run the mission so slowly it hampers the damage output of the GTVA's beams

So I guess the question I have here is... who must I suck up to to be included in said beta test.
-
No one. I expect the team already has all the beta testers they need. And to be clear, I'm not one of them, and I'm perfectly fine with that.
And anyway, wouldn't you prefer to get the rest of the story when it's all good and ready, rather than getting all the spoilers just to play it early?
-
Not to mention playing all the early, crappy versions of the missions !
I blame Axem ! :D
-
When we need beta testers, we tend to go and ask people we already know and are comfortable with. Mostly, this means we get other accomplished FS modders, and people who've impressed us with their insight over IRC or in person.
-
Or Cyber-Jesus!

Thanks for the quick update, I understand that you guys are putting in a ridiculous amount of work and polish on this stuff under the radar but it would be nice to have a screenshot or a quick status a little more than every 9-12 months :D (just to give all your loyal fans something to know its alive!)

I would get excited even if it was just a shot of a cargo container or something, just because it's a container from BP.

Ask, and ye shall receive.

Why don't you do yourself a favour and look up the Wiki (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Special:RecentChanges)* or something.

Makes you wonder whether the GTVA just really hates Linux, and this is all one big misunderstanding caused by a quick google search. :D

Woah---I'm really curious now; what's the story behind how a Solaris got to point-blank broadside position with a Titan? Wouldn't that require something like a pinpoint shock-jump against a modern GTVA frontline destroyer with a Solaris, of all things? I hope it makes sense and all adds up, as it'd be hilariously ironic and, perhaps, poetic.
As for other update stuff--it really doesn't have to be much or specific; you could do a weekly update that just brushes over some things like "we worked on [non-spoiler-version] bug fixes, or making the Titan-class destroyer a bit more hardware-friendly, or even 'this damn bug is giving us a surprising amount of grief'"; it makes a huge difference. Even when we know (or believe) that work is being done regularly, having that kind of proof or explicit updating is both reassuring and, for lack of a better word, energizing.
-
Because of who I'm pulling for, I hope that picture isn't an indication the GTVA has had a massive screwup and loses the war. :D
-
Making regular "we're still alive" updates makes little sense. Better to wait until we have something to show.

Whatever it is, I'm sure we can all expect a wall of text from you telling the devs how it should have been done after the fact.
-
Or maybe it's just a test mission used to balance Solaris' and Titan's broadside damage potential. :p

Highly doubt. That kind of variance is one of the prime reasons to use armor types in FRED.
