Title: Terraria, is it worth buying?
Post by: Retsof on September 03, 2012, 04:16:49 pm
Pretty much what it says on the tin.  The vids look kind of fun, but I want to know if it's worth spending $10 on, especially since there's no demo.

Hmmmn . . . I got a kick out of it. Have you seen the total biscuit vids? They might give you a better idea of the gameplay.
Supposed to be better with multiplayer. I dunno. I didn't actually finish it, but it does have more linear objectives than say Minecraft. Has more boss fights, that sort of thing. If you like minecraft, I think you'll find some value in the game (It's not a ripoff of minecraft, but it is the same sort of genre)

The studio that made it is apparently making a sci-fi themed one, now that I'm more interested in. Will probably pick it up if it ever comes out.

It's like minecraft + metroidvania. It's a fantastic game to play coop, although I think I would get bored playing it on my own relatively quickly.

I did play it by myself for a while and had a decent amount of fun with it; I need to pick it up again one of these days.  It can sometimes be frustrating, and I don't think it has as much replay value (for me at least) as something like Minecraft, but there's a lot you can do with it.

Played around with a few different circles of friends for the longest time building this giant city and then boss raiding together, then later farming the uber-bosses for souls to make the ultimate items.
twas a pretty awesome time sink (but it definitely was a huge time sink), especially since we built a tunnel running across the entire length of the map for easy access to various biomes etc.

Kind of expended my interest in it now that I've got these top-tier weapons reforged to their highest modifier, but it sure took a long time to get there.

Most of the fun IMO was challenging bosses that the party didn't really have the proper equipment for but making up for it with sheer numbers and clever engineering of a stadium.
It'd end up covered with tombstones :D

The bad thing about terraria is the corruption, is way too distracting and time consuming to attempt to control it, especially on the larger map, on hard mode is just near impossible to control, one just go and plant bleesed seeds and both side of every corruption and pray that will stop it.

Dig a 5 x 5 hole (more than enough) and fill it with wood.

I played it for a while a year or two ago. It's a pretty fun game overall, but I can't really see myself playing it again.
