Title: TapaTalk support
Post by: chief1983 on September 04, 2012, 10:21:58 am
I have a friend who has suggested that we install the TapaTalk (http://tapatalk.com/) plugin for SMF, as it would make the site much more usable on mobile devices.  Sounds promising, and hopefully as trivial as any plugin installation could be.  Any takers?

If the app was not a pay-for app, I think this would be a really good idea.  But since it is, I'm not 100% sure it would really add all that much.

Comments and opinions?

Hmm, I see.  Well, it's free to install, and anyone who does happen to shell out for it gets to benefit from it when viewing our site.  I do wonder if there's any other alternatives though.

What do you have, Nokia?  Or are you the other guy using WinMo like me?

I'm running Android on my phone and tablet (custom builds, naturally).

WinMo 6.5 here and hlp is a nightmare to navigate on either the built in IE or in opera. mainly due to the custom titles and signatures, if you ask me.

i have no wish to "upgrade" to androids since i found no app on it to actually be much more than a toy/requiring flat rate mobile internet :p

i'll grant you that the browser is better than winmo's options...

I'd like to bring this subject to the community's attention by posting here instead of creating a new thread.

I've been using TapaTalk for a new days and I really have to admit that it makes browsing forums much easier! I was kind of disappointed when I found out that HLP is not compatible with it, I did some search and the reasons why this hasn't been implemented yet are not sufficient, IMO. For those who don't know what TapaTalk is, take a look: http://www.tapatalk.com/

Yeah, I think there are more pressing issues with the forum software that should be dealt with first.

Since it appears to be free with an option for pro for most platforms (ipad isn't) and now has a windows phone, it's better than it was.

However, as pointed out, it's a very low priority as there are plenty of things still to do and not enough time to get them all done.

I understand there are other things to deal with right now, but even adding TapaTalk support to the to do list is fine. :)

Though smartphones completely replacing computers is a rather unlikely scenario, they're becoming so advanced their role can't be underestimated. I tried the mobile version of HLP and it's very nice, but trust me when I say that TapaTalk is much easier to handle (I use it with other forums).

I'd love to see this implemented, as well.
