For discussing match results and everything to do with the World Cup.

I made a thread like this... "They" filled it with spam... :(

There's a simple solution, if this turns to spam it gets locked. All future football related threads will be locked - so it's essentially everyones last chance to get discussing this right before it can't be discussed here anymore :)

England are second favourites at most bookies now. Last I heard, Ladbrokes were giving 7-2.

I know it's a long-distance longshot, but I'm hoping to see USA win the World Cup.

It could happen!

...Yeah. And Helios bombs might fly out of my sphincter! ;)

Seriously, though, it's been gratifying to see America do as well as it has so far. Thank God for Korea.

Seeing the USA stay in the World Cup longer than Argentina was satisfying too. After having been born in Argentina and raised here in the States, it was greatly satisfying to see Argentina taken down a peg or two. :p

God bless America! :D

Still, if America gets knocked out (a very likely prospect), I'll root for England. And any Argentine who reads this is probably going to go apoplectic with rage at the idea of an Argentine-American rooting for England at anything! :p :ha:

Oh well. Not my problem. :D

Anything's possible this year. Of the favourites, France and Argentina are out, Italy and Germany are looking shaky. And that leaves England and Brazil, one of whom has to go out on....err.....Monday is it?

I was waiting for this to happen.
Personally, I want the USA to win. Not that it will ever happen. Unless pigs fly. I think they were damn lucky to get past the round robin part of the tournament and they're gonna lose to Mexico.

Look, a flying pig!

Hehe, had a hard match today, but a 2 to 0 in our favor can't be that bad after all. On to kick some british ass on friday... :D

About the "no more football threads" stuff: any particular reason why politics and religion discussions are allowed by football discussions are not? I think all these topics detract from the main theme of the boards (which are originally space sims and sci-fi) in an equal manner... there shouldn't be any difference on the way they are treated. ;)

I've always been a great fan of Portugal (and South Africa)

but Portugal deserved to lose...
a country where soccer is one of the top sports, loses to a country where soccer is hardly heard of...that really sucks... but Portugal didn't play as well as they should have... they deserved to lose!

i'm not really keeping up with the world cup this year though :(

Not many(if any) can sing their national anthem with as much heart as we can.
British Anthem (http://www.copcity.com/anthems/uk.mid)

Or just as good. Rule Britannia (http://ingeb.org/songs/rulebrit.mid)

Meh, our anthem is a lot better than that. A question: do you change the anthem every time there's a new regent? Like, if it's a man you change it to "God save the king"?

:p

We dont have an offical national anthem, but its either God Save the King or God Save the Queen, both of which IMHO are the best national anthems ever :D :)
Your looking at the local patriot :). Still Rule Britannia is a good song. Still the last lines in V5 are funny "Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the King!". No wonder Aldo is going for Brazil. Still Brazils defence looks shaky somewhat, not as good as usual.

I'll admit that I'm not of of Hendrix's biggest fans, in fact, the only song of his I really like is "All Along the Watchtower" (That song rocks! :D ) but his rendition of the national anthem is pretty cool just on the concept alone. I mean, c'mon, how many national anthems are you gonna hear played on electric guitars? :D ;7

I'm just glad that USA stayed in the World Cup longer than Argentina! Has that even happened before?

I can't imagine that Mexico is feeling too happy now either about losing to the States....

And I'm also glad to see that England is still in and Argentina is out. Uh oh, I gotta be careful what I say in here... :nervous:

Ah,well, nothing like a little friendly competition to inflame old national grudges! :ha: ;)

Isn't there also the orchestral crescendo bit where people go a bit higher pitched and sing "muh-muh-muh-muh muuuuuuh muuuh muuuuh muhhhh muh-muh..." ?

I still prefer other National Anthems. The words to the French one are pretty cool, just on the grounds of being pretty much nonsense. And is the German one still Deutschland über Alles? I liked that too. :)

Still, obligatory Kellan-bashing of nations follows...blah blah blah. The End.

Dodgy...I reckon Tottis reputation preceeded him.

See what Perugia did to the golden Goal scorer?  Sacked him!

Their chairman said something along the lines of " he's ruined Italian football", "he was perfect for South korea against Italy but never for us (Perugia) in Italy" and "he'll never set foot in Perugia again"

so, not bitter then.

Ahh well, Brazil were just the better team, although England should have been able to score once Ronaldinho was sent off. Oh well, bring on Euro 2004. I am worried that the tabloids will scapegoat Seaman as the reason why we lost.

English  Not British - don't lump us and the Welsh in with that lot.  we're crap, but proud of it :).   I nearly shook the foundations when Brazil equalised, not to mention at the 50 and 90 minute mark.

:D ;7

Not a cats chance in hell of me ever supporting England, especially after the way Radio 5 reacted after the match - their whole post-match assessment was based on bad-mouthing Brazil, calling them a mediocre () team of cheats, divers and time-wasters.

Oh, and Ahn Jung Woo (?), the player released by Perugia, has been linked with just about every club in Scotland - his agent said he would be talking to not only the Old Firm, but also to the likes of Dundee United.  Of course, his agent is Scottish.

Oh, and Italian Tv company Rai (?) is thinking of suing FIFA over the refereeing decisiosns against Italy

Oh.....

Hehe.  Sorry, couldn't resist.  after all, it's not often a Scottish fan gets to celebrate, is it?

As badly as England is taking the loss, it's still nowhere near as bad as the Italians reaction. They just can't accept that they lost because they're ****.

At least one good thing came out of Englands loss; Namely having hundreds of pictures of fine ass, scantilly clad Brazillian women bouncing up and down on the news all day. :D;7

'Tis true.  The England fans on the radio (I watched the game on the tV, and listened to the post match on the radio whilst playing ISS :D ) seemed to take it well...it was the pundits that were embarrassing themselve, by the aforementioned Brazil-bashing.  Luckily, it means I can now go and safely buy a new Brazil shirt, seeing as my 1992 vintage one is just a wee bit tatty :D

Here in the States, we're taking the loss to Germany really well. The US-Germany was so close, it could have turned on a dime at any second of the game. We lost several possible goals by only a few feet.

Still, we made Germany earn that win. And we're all pretty happy about how we did in the World Cup. I mean, who would have thought that the USA would stay in the game longer than Mexico, France and Argentina? As I recall, all three of those countries took their losses hard (for good or ill). As for us, yeah, we're out, but the US team fought tooth and nail to stay in as long as they did.

We're proud of our team. I don't think Mexico, France and Argentina can say the same thing. All three of those countries were really upset at losing so soon, especially Mexico since they lost to their arch-rival, the United States. (I think they're still pissed about losing Texas to us also. Hey, we didn't take it, Santa Ana lost it! :p  :D )

Too bad about England, too. USA and England were the two teams I was rooting for in the Cup; now that they're both out, I don't really have anyone to root for anymore.

And just for the fact that I'm an Argentine-American, I refuse to root for the Brazil team (bunch of arrogant bastards, they are).

On the other hand, maybe I could start rooting for Senegal.... ;7 :p ;)

what did you say about Italy-Korea's match Referee?.... if you have seen today's match between Spain and the same Korea... maybe you are going to change your mind... really really bad.... man. I just hope Germany isn't going to have the same fate....

Korea beats Spain 5-3 in penalties!... amazing considering their previous penalties they had against other countries and how Spain's goalkeeper kept out so many other penalties in other matches...

The Galltaserai (sp?) fans knifed Leeds fans and killed one of 'em a while back. Thus the reason there's gonna be a crap load of security hanging around after the Brazil match. They always do it. If a Turkish team loses all hell breaks loose.

yosh.
didn't read this thread so far coz football bores me. anyway, let me comment this lil serntence ^_^
As a french, you can't imagine how pleased  I've been when our team has been kicked out. Come on, how did they expect to win? Their ego was bigger than the Eiffel tower  In France, you switched on the TV, and you were sure to see one of them in an advert, for anything, from mcDo to shampoo... W/o Zidane, they're nothing, and bringing him back while still injured was hopeless. really, they had no pride, and i hope the lesson won't be wasted as they learnt it the hard way. BTW, France will never be world champion again, Zidane is to retire before the next world championship. you can cheer up, you won't see France winning by blind luck again ;)

Did you just say "fans"? Well if they are fans then what are we. I for one don't want to be that kind of "fan".

As I see it, the final will be Korea-Brazil.

Turkey has a chance because Brazil's players look tired, but I hope that Brazil will win.

Korea is helped too much by the referees, and Germany isn't that good.

a/ Galatasary won that match
b/ I was at the Ranges - Galatasary Champions league game, and there was nary a sign of trouble - smae went for the away match (although I didn;t go to Turkey)
c/  It only seems to be the English (and themeselves) that the Turks pick fights with
d/  that's racist and bigoted.  It's unfair to group fans based on a minority.... after all, it's identical to the situation in England.

Go Germany! Go Germany! Just to piss of Styxx! Just to piss off Styxx! :D

Seriously though, they don't have anything to lose - they've come into the World Cup with no expectations on their shoulders. Brazil, however remain favourites.

Anyhow finals are usually boring. The teams are too defensive; too scared to risk.

Hmmm? What are you talking about? The Turkey Korea game was one of the most entertaining ever... A record for the fastest scored goal in a final (12 seconds opposed to 16 seconds for the previous record stretching back 40 yrs). And then there's the bad referee decision to disallow Korea's goal by offside (it was only passive offside, as the person offside had nothing to do with the goal, the referee shouldn't have disallowed it according to the rules). Then take Korea's last minute goal against Turkey to make it 3-2 Turkey wins. (Which should have been 3-3 if it wasn't for bad refereeing). It's prolly a trillion times more interesting than the upcoming Brazil-Germany game :D

BRAZIL 2 [/SIZE]  - 0 Germany

(Ronaldo double)

Not a bad match - Germany were unlucky - but Kahn kind of embarrassed himself by fumbling Rivaldos shot striaght to Ronaldo for the opener.

Marcos (the Brazil keeper) was superb, though - touched an absolute walliper from Neuville onto the post, and saved - IIRC - Bierhoffs volley-on-the-turn.

So...this has been a World Cup like no other, then, eh?

Portugal, Spain and Italy went home moaning, England went home saying 'if we'd just got through that match we'd have won it', you could never count out the Germans, who were resolute and determined, and Brazil won it, with a flair filled performance of skill and samba style.

Well, there's a first for everything......
