Instead of laughing, help him to explain what he needs to show his render.

Ok, Hippo linking from your desktop is A1-not supar !!:)
You need to upload the pic too a server, something like tripod or angel fire make an acount there and upload the pics and post the link here instead of the [img] use [url] as both don't allow outside linking.

And the file name cannot have spaces...
you have: Big boom 2
Use: Big_boom_2.jpg there must be a extension.;)

Hope that helps.:)

or e-mail the pic to me and i'll upload it for you.

The name CAN have spaces. The URL cannot. In the URL you have to encode the spaces with their hex equivalents. Use %20 for a space.

big%20boom%202.jpg, for example.

i think just putting _ or leaving out spaces would be simpler.

Please tell me I don't have to close this for random stupidity before the guy even has a chance to try and post his picture. If you can't say something constructive in this situation then it's better to say nothing at all, ok?

No you dont, but i suspect the actual picture is of something being blown up.
Title: Hmn... something constructive...
Post by: Starfury on June 16, 2002, 05:58:53 pm
Ok.  Here's something constructive:  Hey Thunder?  Is there any way you could create a directory, site, etc, attached to HLP, so that rendering people could submit renders, get a URL back upon submission, and show their pics in the forum?  This would save some of us having to find a server.

Hahaha  I remember doing that once, I was quite a little newb back then. But seriously, dude, you need to upload the image to a server and link it. It's a LOT more complex then it sounds. Have fun :p

Just put a server in the FAQ or have a sticky for good art servers in this forum

Wouldn't that suggest you've changed?

I don't blame this guy though, there's a lot of computer-illiterate people out there, not to mention internet-illiterate people. I would suggest allowing attachments, but since lots of people would probably use this feature for the wrong reasons, don't do it ;)

Well, if maximum size was..say..400 KB?
That's mean we could put fairly sizable JPEGs up without..or..yeah. *mind goes blank*

well could you allow atachments for select people, then it could be something like
someone requests atachment privilage,
admin thinks about it and decides if this person is trust worthy,
if that is a yes then the person is free to make atachments,
if they abuse this privilige, they get it taken away,

Cananda cant dominate the world while its under the Stateship of our Queen. I was watching the Trooping of the colour and there were 4 flags, one of which was the Canadian flag.

Well.. that wasnt what I was pointing at, but...
Your queen has absolutely no power over us. If she tried to interfere with our politics, we'd just give her the finger, much like we do to the Americans....

Geez, be nice people.

And we've always had a simple procedure for dealing with people who don't have webspace.  Just email one of the admins the picture(s) and it'll get uploaded.

I just got in from school... and e-mailed the file to ... the person i can't remember that forgot the slash...

I'm just too used to the vbb code where you couldn't use img code... i read the url stuff on the vbb, but didn't bother to read it here...

It is about an explosion...

Its based on a screenshot that  took 2 years ago, i've been working on it since...

i tried to add motion blur, but all it did was mess up everything and make the nebulas look better...

DC is right, it is a screenshot more than anything else - but I can see what you tried to do with it and screenshots are a great place to start when it comes to rendering IMO... I mean I did it:

My third ever "render" - it sucks doesn't it - but I just applied a motion blur and fiddled the lighting and contrast levels a bit. Keep practicing - like I said it's a great way to go.
