Title: Apophysis
Post by: Madrox on September 25, 2012, 06:43:58 pm
So, before i enter this forum, before Freespace 2 got my permanent attention, i did some art, yes, im a artists, but i do not know how to draw properly concrete concepts like animals, tree or human beings , i am a abstract man. But, im mainly a digital artist, wich means i do some nice computer arts with  programs (see my DeviantArt here: http://krictic.deviantart.com/), but im specialised in one pecific program, called Apohysis (See the offical site here http://apophysis.org/), with this little wonder, i can do incredible pieces of abstract art based on fractals and flames.

So i did some pieces like this:
http://krictic.deviantart.com/art/Flame-66-255099124
http://krictic.deviantart.com/art/Flame-114-298356934
or this
http://krictic.deviantart.com/art/Flame-117-301947839

Anyone messed up with this program yet?

obs: if you wanna try, i strongly reccomend you use the Apophysis 7x, the original rpogram is on a permanent hiatus and lack many useful  functionatities. Link here: http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&global=1&q=Apophysis+7x#/d27ukur

Not my kind of art, but pretty sweet all the same.

That looks insanely complex to achieve, I like that second one.. like a fenix :D

Not so much, only requires practice, its easier than FRED. xD

you should try it sometime.

Does it do 3d fractals?

I once wondered about a backdrop in Freespace using a 3d fractal, combined with actual set pieces made in 3d software.

I have literally zero time for those wet dreams of mine though.

Nah, I've learned my lesson already.
It's better to focus on a single feat and improve it a lot than be low-average in every other skill.

For 3d fractals, you can use another program called Mandelbulb 3D.

its a little difficult to use, but can create beaultiful images.

Those look really cool. The first one has a really nice William Morris feel to it.

There's a 3D "hack" for apophysis, which is included in the version Madrox linked.

Also @Madrox, there've been a fair number of apophysis threads here over the years.  Do a search for em and see some cool images. :)

Yes, you are right, but the Mandelbulb 3D actually make s them solid. Apophysis cannot do this.

Seriously? nice, i will do it! =D

You should be doing nebula or galaxy generation...

Ah, that's a pretty significant difference.  I'll have to check this out! :D

I had a thread showcasing some of the stuff I did with Apophysis way back when, but yours beat the crap out of mine. :nervous:

Thanks for that, it does do incredible stuff! The only problem I have is to go from an actual idea to the actual formula to use. But for brainstorming it is amazing.
