Web cursor bitmap not found.  This is most likely due to one of three reasons:
1) You're running FreeSpace Open from somewhere other than your FreeSpace 2 folder;
2) You've somehow corrupted your FreeSpace 2 installation, e.g. by modifying or removing the retail VP files;
3) You haven't installed FreeSpace 2 at all.  (Note that installing FreeSpace Open does NOT remove the need for a FreeSpace 2 installation.)
Number 1 can be fixed by simply moving the FreeSpace Open executable file to the FreeSpace 2 folder.  Numbers 2 and 3 can be fixed by installing or reinstalling FreeSpace 2.

I'm stating the obvious here, but have you checked all these three things?

Code: [Select]
1) You're running FreeSpace Open from somewhere other than your FreeSpace 2 folder;
2) You've somehow corrupted your FreeSpace 2 installation, e.g. by modifying or removing the retail VP files;
3) You haven't installed FreeSpace 2 at all.  (Note that installing FreeSpace Open does NOT remove the need for a FreeSpace 2 installation.)

Also, was this working previously and has stopped working?

yes, otherwise i wouldnt have posted. It worked fine up until the time i DL'd BP2 and Multi and 3.6.14 (all within a close proximity of time) so im unsure what if any of those three events might have corrupted or plain wiped out whatever resources it can't find. or maybe i just got a corrupted DL. im not that savvy reading this stuff.

 (and i compltely jsut realized I didnt even attempt to make an open_log yet.. lemme get on if i even can ((the FRED crashes after those two errors)))

Post a debug log so we can solve the problem.

It should still be generating a debug log.

Disable Normal Maps.
OpenGL 1.4.0 is a general 'Bare Metal' minimum, so I don't know that will help any, but you can try it.
Don't load MV_Advanced or MV_AnimGlows, you can't handle them from a texture space POV.

AFAIK, there is an option to disable model rendering via OpenGL or something, I'm at work right now so somebody else will have to clue that in.

Code: [Select]
  OpenGL Renderer   : Intel 865G
  OpenGL Version    : 1.3.0 - Build 4.14.10.4396

Holy **** man. You'd be better trying to run FSO from a calculator.

Also,
Code: [Select]
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\MediaVPs_3612\MV_Advanced.vp' with a checksum of 0x4b8b0f5aNot very important from now, but I suggest renaming MediaVPs_3612 to mediavps_3612. Other mods will look for the second spelling and it is case-sensitive, so unless you want to alter every mod.ini ever, I suggest you change back to the normal spelling.

I've had it as MediaVPs_3612 ever since I installed FS2Open, and I've never had trouble with mods that reference mediavps_3612 in the mod.ini. You might as well change it to be safe, but I doubt leaving it as is will cause any issues.

Are you sure? I just renamed the folder to MEDIAVPS_3612 on OS X and mods that use it still work. I wonder if it'd still work on Linux, which has a case-sensitive file system, but I don't have a suitable Linux setup handy.

I think FSO on Linux handles mixed case files OK, but can't handle mixed case directories on the filesystem (it's OK with mixed case directories inside a VP.
