Right the prototype (left) and the finished production Fighter/Bomber on patrol (for some reason :p ) .
The next mesh I texture I'm not gonna go over the top with hull 'decorations' :o.
edit
just noticed the lack of engine glows. Not that I really care, though.
edit again: the reason the right ship is so much brighter then the other has to do with the fact that I enabled self-illumination on that one without a mask (the right one has no self-illumination). I also intend to change the colour to a more red-ish colour.

i like the almost cartoonish quality to the texture on the hulls. It looks like a painted cel. Very groovy.

hehe thanks!
like I said, I'll have to be more moderate in the future

Cool model

Ryx - you just cracked the biggest problem of my life!
Try making a copy of the hull texture, putting a little bit of noise around the edges and making them displacement maps.
It should come out looking distinctly shivan then :)
(might have to convert it to NURBS though to get MAX to do it...or failing that render it with PRman)
-
hmm displacement map... that would be a black background with white noise in this case, right?
Around the red bits or the black bits?
-
I'd raise the black ridges around the glowy red bits (which means the ridges in the displacement map would be lighter)
-
I like it. ;)

Purty colors. :D Change the overall design, make the red into blue, and we've got perfect TSI fighters. ;)
BTW, Slipstream, would you please fix that sig. HTML code doesn't work here.

I wouldn't count on that. I might/probably-will revisit this tex map at some point, when my skills has improved. For time being, It'll stay that way.
