Is it hard-coded that the player must be in Alpha, Beta, or Gamma wing? It seems whenever I put the player in a wing that isn't one of those, the ship doesn't appear in the loadout screen.
I like the Freespace naming convention and all. But I'm getting a little tired of it and want something new. :P
-
You can set those names to anything you like as long as you make the same change to the other wing fields in Mission Specs.
-
If you'd played Wings of Dawn you'd know this!
-
AH. Another act of obvlivion on my part. Sorry.
Nope. Never played Wings of Dawn. ;)
-
Everybody picking up FRED should be required to play BP2, Wings of Dawn, Vassago's Dirge and The Antagonist just to get a sense of how powerful the editor can be these days.
-
Funny. I've never played any of them. :D
Didn't even hear of the last two.
-
Well get to it :P
-
Nah. I'd rather make my own stuff.
-
Then you're sadly depriving yourself of a wealth of inspiration.
-
God knows if everybody on this website played by haloboy's rules literally nobody would play any campaigns except ones they'd made.
We can look forward to mocking 20 minute missions without checkpoints though
e: I should probably add Dimensional Eclipse to that list!
e2: and JAD 2.22 holy ****
-
cough*Diaspora*cough
-
We have such a long list of cool things to play that Battuta can't even remember them all!
And haloboy is choosing by his own will to miss out on all of this! What madness am I being witness of here?! What could possible drive a person to do this?
-

I have all the inspiration I need. Got two novels in the pipe and if life conditions allows I'll have a campaign started. It doesn't have to come from sources made by Freespace fans. ;)

Lack of interest and certain alienation in things made by other fans of something I like. I despise indulging in fanfiction. I instead plan to create it.
-
Huh, cool. What publishers picked up your novels?
e: or do you mean 'in the pipe' in a different sense?
-
As I understand, "in the pipe" means "being worked on". :P
About 30,000 or so words across 9 or so chapters for the first one. So it's not really started. But one day it will happen. I'm being patient. But persistant.
The point is, I know what I'm doing.
-
Well good luck with that then. You just managed to alienate me from ever showing interest in whatever it is you are going to create though :p
-
Yeah, I despise indulging in fanfiction so I won't be playing or reading anything you make.
If you want any advice on getting published as a real author though feel free to PM me! Peace
-
Fine by me. That's how I feel about the majority of work on HLP. But I still appreciate it, and I still love you guys. ;)
In the end, I don't care if anybody likes my work or even sees it. I just care that I complete it. Then I will have my sole purpose in life fulfilled.
-
So, let me get this straight, you're a hypocritical narcissistic being who indulges in the paradox of despising (and ignoring) what others create while you attempt to create something similar. It's like going into research and refusing to read researchers papers published by any other researcher, because you have "plenty of understanding" of the world, so you don't need to look at what others have done.
Yeah, good luck getting anywhere with that attitude. You'll need it.
-
Enough with the dogpiling guys, leave him alone.
-

Er, that's fine and all, but what may happen is that you'll work hard on implementing some cool thing or other, only to find out later that it's been done several times before, thus wasting an opportunity to copy the feature, then build and expand on it. So you might want to check out those campaigns just to keep up to date on the state of the art in modding, if not for creative inspiration. :)
-
Ah, in the end I don't care what's innovative and what isn't. I've had this idea in my mind for years.

I'm not making something similar. I'm making something of the same medium. Any further similarites are coincidental.
I don't see what the problem is with the fact that I don't care for indulging in other people's work. This isn't about making something entertaining or even presentable. It's just about doing something that comes from my heart. And what comes from my heart happens to be devoid of what comes from most other peoples'. Regardless of any differences or similarites from it.
and don't assume that this attitude is what I carry elsewhere in my life. It isn't. Predicting my life based on such an assumption is inaccurate.
I'll make what I want. and I'll throw it into the world. I don't care who catches it. If I happen to be the Ed Wood of freespace campaigns, then so be it. My name will be there. That's what matters.
also, Narcissism is really fun. Try it out one day. You can go from 0 self-esteem to totally egotistic in a day. :D

I don't think people are referring to the story content anymore. When we suggest you play the other campaigns, we don't mean it so that 'Oh hey look at our universe, characters and galactic-policital intrigues and base your stuff off ours,' we're trying to direct you there so you can study the technical aspects of the missions, so you can figure out what you liked and didn't like and use that data as a means to broaden your understanding of what the engine is capable of, and by so doing further expand your creative possibilities, and so that you can ensure the final product has been sharpened into something truly you.
Thomas Edison once said 'To invent you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.' We're just trying to give you a larger pile. Wings of Dawn and The Antagonist have proven that entirely separate universes are more than welcome here. We want to help you make yours seem as alive as possible.
-
I just start by imagining the pile is infinitely large. Then I narrow it down to the greatest possible medium. I know what this engine is capable of. I've seen the trailers and videos. But I don't need that kind if capability for what I want. I'm leaving those sorts of things to my novels.
-
What are your novels about?
-
I know what this engine is capable of.
And your first post in this thread suggests otherwise.
-
Seeing as how the op's question has been answered and this thread is going nowhere I'm just going to lock it.
