I've been thinking about AOTC recently, and it may seem strange, but I'm liking that movie less and less. I'm actually left with a worse aftertaste than Episode I, believe it or not. I'm not sure if I can pin down exactly why I've gotten to this point, but I have.
I've seen the movie twice, and it was best the first time.
It has (like TESB) a few semi-unrelated storylines throughout, which can be annoying. For the record, IMHO TESB was the least excellent of the original trilogy, because of it's transitional and open-ended/cliffhanger story. AOTC is sort of the same, but there's simply no replacing the back-and-forth between Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher which was the highlight of TESB. :)
The humor can be summed up in 4 words: Give Me A Break. :rolleyes: Threepio should be incapable of spouting puns (that were actually quite funny) on purpose; his sense of humor in the original trilogy was limited to being laughed at more than anything else. But noooo.... (spoiler alert - highlight to read) he gets beheaded and dragged around, and all of a sudden he comes up with 2-3 funny lines, based on puns, nonetheless! Come on...
The part with Yoda (you know what part I'm talking about...) was a pathetic attempt to combine lightsaber moves that were a step up from what we saw in TPM with humor at the contrast between old frail Yoda and.... the other Yoda. :D It came across as nothing more than incredibly ridiculous.
Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now. :D

Yoda is a modest and humble person. He always conserves his strength and only shows his true colours in combat, thus the reason he uses a walking stick :) and i cant believe your critizing the movie for being funny. Its one of the best SW ever, with tons of battle scenes and comedy.

I prefer it over TESB and I've seen it twice, but it just makes you feel all empty and sad. :( Makes you wanna see the third one now! lol

I think ESB was the best Star Wars movie. AOTC is second or third place, and Episode 1 was last.
I think AOTC needs a bit of a darker feel though.

There's nothing wrong with humor, but it should be placed logically, not all bunched up into one headless droid - and not all in 2 subsequent lines!

actually it's supposed to be that Yoda absorbed his energy from Count Dooku (note the 'lightning' part of the battle) they even show it a bit in the movie, where Yoda absorbs all of the lightning that Count Dooku fires at him

I like the original best, but AotC wasn't half-bad if you ignored the romance part. I'd place it at #3 out of the 4 SW movies. And yes, I do mean 4, not 5. I only recogize the existence of 4.

The romance scenes were like......... baaaad :p Hayden wasn't IMO a very good actor for anakin.... his dramatic lines seemed cheesy and he was super-brat anakin...
The battles weren't quite as cool as I'd like, Obi-Wan just sucked, there were too few double-lightsabers and Yoda wasn't funny enough and not serious enough. A lot of the lines were incredibly dumb like "this party's over" - by Mace :rolleyes:

I liked it then and I still do, the battle scenes were epic although they didn't carry the same feeling of humanity that the Battle of Hoth did (meh... it was a clone war ;)). Amazing effects though, loved the Coruscant chase scenes.
Anakin whined way to much, but that could be deliberate - it still sucked but it sucked so much that it became funny.
The Jedi on the whole kicked ass, it's a shame they cast Obi Wan in such a piss poor part (especially the fight with Dooku), In the first films I was always of the opinion that he was up near Yoda in the Jedi power hierarchy.
Yoda kicked ass, they did a pretty good job of CGing him and that enabled a lot more interesting fight scenes to occur. Good job there...
Mace Windu really does kick ass, although they did ruin it somewhat with the line "This party's over", I couldn't help but laugh at that which sort of ruined the point of Mace himself as the cool Jedi...
Good badies this time around, none of the watered down monster crap of the first film with Maul... Dooku has some charachter to him and even (to some extent) a cause.
The love scenes.... meh - they sucked. They had to show them happening but it was all so jerky and predictable that it was barely worth it - they could've introduced the love, left it to the middle of the film then put in Amidalas rejection - then complete it with her realising she really did love him or something. It was terribly done.
All in all though, a great film - not as good as the original 4,5,6 but still great.

Yoda's fight was ridiculous, IMO - he's still eight-hundred-and-something by the time that AOTC rolls around and it doesn't seem very Jedi-like to be deceitful and use a wlking stick when he doesn't need one. Anyway, his fight looked stupid, and that's what matters. It was put in to provide humour and please fanboys, I think. Well, at least I found it hilarious... :p
I still don't feel like I know characters like Mace Windu enogh to say that they're good or bad. You don't really see a personal side to them (I'm NOT suggesting more love scenes, but he only ever appears to make 'command decisions' and give out orders).
Same with Dooku. Whilst he's a step above Darth Maul, I was disappointed that there wasn't much elaboration on his character after the bit where he talks to Obi-Wan, but at least he didn't die so there's room to expand on him in 3. :)

and fires it back. No what you say is wrong, he is humble and hides his power as he doesnt like using his force abilities all the time, its probably easier to use a walking stick than continually draw on the force. Yoda is the most powerful Jedi at that time as well as the best Jedi with a lightsaber. The battle scene with him was amazing simply and very well done.

Yoda is very humble and respected, but he is also old, and he did absorb the lightning energy from count dooku.
Even in the movie, they show dooku fire at yoda, then yoda fires back, then for like 10 second dooku is firing at yoda, and you see yoda just sit there and absorb it... then dooku stops, and you see yoda absorb it all.
They even emphasize how old Yoda is getting in the movie where he has this hover chair when he's talking to windu and obi-wan.
Actually Mace Windu is supposed to be the most powerful Jedi. Master Yoda is very wise, and used to be very powerful, but he's gotten old. He's still one of the most powerful with the force though.
The book actually tells things a lot differently. I read it a while ago, and in the part when Anakin fights count dooku on his own, what happens in the book is Anakin actually almost beats Dooku. Dooku tries to escape, but Anakin blocks all the exits with the force.
Now who DID pretend to be all weak and frail was Darth Sidius. In episode 5 and 6 you see that, and that's emphasized in the movies and books... that he pretends to be all weak, but that the reason his face is all wrinkled and twisted up is not because he's old, but because he's so powerful with the force that the force has wrinkled his face, and hunched his body.
Yoda was humble, but he never pretended to be weak.

actually in the book and the movie they say that Windu is the most powerful with a lightsaber, and Yoda is the best in wisdom,
i'd say they draw for force...

And Obi-Wan is supposed to be a combination of both. Wise, a good fighter, and strong in the force....but not quite the best at all three. Not a bad combination however.
