best solution to that problem is to delete both windows 8 and the games for windows live.

Yeah AFAIK playing games, and running most software, on W8 will be a huge pain for the time being. Klaus is right, you'd be best off sticking with W7 or whatever you were using before, unless someone knows how to get these things working.

Wrong. I have so far not found a program that wouldn't work straight out of the box.

Well, I am very sorry for not being MS Tech support. I just know how to Google, and that thread seemed to have a few suggestions regarding what to do.

If you've already tried all of those, maybe you should tell us? Just so that we know what you tried?

I think you misunderstood me. I meant, and I am very sorry for not spelling this out, "What the hell do you think you're doing, jr2?"

wouter asked a legitimate question, the answer to which may even be of interest to others, so why do you think posting a wrong simile would be a good thing?

Because I don't understand his question, due to lack of information.  I was bascially trying to ask for more information, however, in retrospect, considering the language barrier, my choice of means made about as much sense as Wouter's OP made to me.  Sorry.

Wouter, What exactly do you have a problem with?  Which games?  I'm assuming you mean certain games in MS Live Games for Windows.  Was that a download?  Was it orginally for Windows 7?  Was it actually a purchased product?

Not being familiar with MS Live Games for Windows, and only having a smattering of experience with Windows 8, I need a lot more information as I can't really guess between the few lines of information that you provided.

EDIT: Right, while I'm at it, what did the crash messages say?

EDIT2: I would of course defer to someone who has more experience a) with Windows 8 and b) with MS Live Games for Windows, but since the problem doesn't appear to be being resolved, it looks like people were having as much trouble understanding the problem as me.  Hence my jumping in and asking for more information.  I might not be able to fix it, but perhaps for someone else, it will 'click' and they will understand what is happening and offer a solution.

EDIT3: Wouter, is this (http://www.freewarefiles.com/Microsoft-Games-For-Windows-LIVE_program_35222.html) what you are talking about?

A quick Google, which you failed to do, would have told you that there seem to be issues with some of the GFWL runtimes and Win8. Batman Arkham City, for example, is affected by this, according to the steam forums.

Besides, as ...quirky... as wouter's english tends to be, the issue described here is pretty clear. "I'm using Windows 8, and some of the games I have that are using GFWL are crashing during startup or hanging on the main menu, does anyone have a clue about this?", to paraphrase. There's not much more information you need.

Oh, alright, so it's not a specific game or pack of games from MS, per se, it's the integration into the ... IDK, some sort of game center from MS?  I take it, some new iteration of Games Explorer?

EDIT: see EDIT3 above, I thought that's what he was on about.

jr2, games for windows live is well known. You obviously didn't even know about it, hence you are definitely not helping in this thread.

You will note that an attempt at answering this was made by me here:

That's a link to the Steam forums thread about Arkham City, GFWL, and Win8, which seems to have a few suggestions on how to deal with this.
Also, there was this post:

To which wouter hasn't posted an answer yet. So as far as I can tell, we're just spending time while wouter gets back to us regarding whether or not one of the solutions posted at the steam forums worked, or what he has tried but failed to make work. Your attempts at helping, while in principle admirable, are not actually helping.

Oh, and for the record: I am a Windows 8 user. While I haven't encountered this particular issue yet (Due to me not having anything installed right now that uses GFWL), I am probably far better equipped to deal with this than you are. Not to mention that I can actually understand what wouter is saying.

That would be the post that confused me.  I figured wouter was saying all the posts so far were way off base.  To which I was trying to say, 'well, more info then!'  But anyways, it appears I'm not really helping the situation, so I'll bow out now.  Good luck all!  :)
