I'm astounded there isn't a thread about this yet.
PSY - GANGNAM STYLE: The original.

Gangnam Style - Hyuna Version

Bill Nye the Psyence Guy

Already seen it. Too many times. Its really popular on campus. They have a couple vans going around blasting it out of ginormous speakers
-
This music video is actually a veiled critique of Korean culture. Also it's great

HEEEEEEEEEY SEXY SCIENCE GUY

My personal favorite, Gundam Style was removed from YT by the Copyright Brigade.
Still accessible on NicoNico Douga though: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm18629159
Or here (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6MDzrv20WfwYjA4TjdDbENGLUE/edit?pli=1) if you're not awesome enough to have a Nico account.
Wizard Gandalf Style:

-
I'd say this was old news by now, but I Cannot Get That Song Out Of My Head Dear Lord So Catchy.
-
Nearly half a billion views. Pretty impressive I'd say.
-
wizard gandalf style was a damn good spoof actually. also, dishonorary mention to the fail that key of awesome's spoof is... http://youtu.be/_cG7ZVBXQII
-
oups that was already posted. :)

Here is a pretty good article on it, certainly changed my view on the whole thing from being absurd and silly to absurd and clever:
Gangman Style, Dissected (http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2012/08/gangnam-style-dissected-the-subversive-message-within-south-koreas-music-video-sensation/261462/)
and Mitt Romney Style (http://www.collegehumor.com/video/6830834/mitt-romney-style-gangnam-style-parody)

It had quite a few views too before it got removed :sigh:
-
I was just watching this with some of my coworkers, we were trying to get the dance moves figured.
Dammit it's hard.
-
I don't quite understand why anyone would like it, except for perhaps koreans. Irritating music and dumb dance moves = horsepoo.
-
Yeah I mean it's not like people can have differing tastes in music or anything.
-
Irritating music and dumb dance moves are the most lucrative combination since marijuana seeds and horsepoo.
-
I'd post a terribly hilarious portuguese parody of the video featuring our economic terror story, but the lyrics would be meaningless to most of you...
-
The lyrics of the original are meaningless to most people.
-
and Mitt Romney Style (http://www.collegehumor.com/video/6830834/mitt-romney-style-gangnam-style-parody)
That was golden. :)

And honestly, compared to how irritating most current American pop music is, PSY might as well be Bach.

Fixed that for you. ;)

Why is this so popular on my campus?
-
Why is this so popular on my campus?
it is terribad but unfortunately ridiculously catchy, just got to ride it out.
-
Among the many good videos previously mentioned, I also enjoyed PSYwalker (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tM9-ZYxpqbM&feature=g-all-u), by the same fellow you previously brought you Han Solo Style
-
Just saw it for the first time, and I was pretty underwhelmed.
However, from the "Whatcha Listenin' To?" thread:
PSY vs Ghostbusters - Gangnam Busters - Mashup by FAROFF (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82LCKBdjywQ)
Eeeyup.
I'm now watching this for the fourth time, and if I didn't have stuff to do, I could easily watch it a few more times.
-
I love it, and am sad that it's going to be the flavour of the month thing instead of something longer lasting.
-

It's not terribad. He's parodying the wealthiest neighborhood in South Korea.

And i have read up on that, fact is it makes no difference to the qualities of either the singing or the backing track

Both of which are amazingly objective and rigorously measured by peer-reviewed Science(tm) to be judged as "silly".

Opinions, yes? Good.

you lost me 3 seconds in. i just hate digital noise. when it comes to music im purely analog.
-
It must suck for you to listen to recorded music in the last 20 or so years...
-
im no audiophile, but i do insist all the instruments be of analog types. recorded through mics, or through non-digital amplifiers in the case of electric guitars/bass, and that vocals not be processed. **** like drum triggers and autotune immediately flag music as crap to my ears. im barely tolerant of keyboards even.
-
I guess you can't listen to stuff on your computer too right?
-
no i can and do. i have a 30 year old stereo wired to my sound card though (i found the amp in the dumpster). im not against digital storage of music, just digital instrumentation.
-
But you just said you are against, for example, voice processing... how do you expect it to be recorded?
-
thats irrelevant (its one thing to record digitally, its another thing entirely to synthesize everything, or feeding sampled sound data through so many algorithms that it sounds flat), i just dont want any square waves that i can make with a few 7400 series chips and a speaker.
-
You are mistaking digital instrumentation with MIDI-like sounds.
One thing is to say you dislike one instrument (or sound) or another, but to categorically state that you dislike a whole range of instruments, which can mimic another range which you state to like is... well... absurd.
-
your thinking too hard. you shouldn't do that, you might forget math or something. so lets put it another way, i dont like electronic instruments, unless they are analog, and i dont like excessive post production, which i think makes the sound flat. thats not even touching on the trends in modern music that i despise. it need not go further than that, or im going to start demanding the return of 8 track tapes and make general get off my lawn type statements.
-
You might as well, that would be a concrete and reasonably logical thing; this not so much.
-
Acoustic Style:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmBByDQHJAA
Three people, one acoustic guitar, all awesome.
-
in short Nuke likes the character that comes from sound imperfections with an analogue based input played with human hands when played with a degree of competence.
-

That's like saying you like movies filmed in one take, though; it's something that doesn't actually happen unless you're dealing with complete incomptents. If there are noticeable imperfections, you'll do over, and have for at least a couple generations.
-
its like saying you make a movie without using CGI and sound effects editted in afterwards, its possible, it probably wont have the mass global appeal, but it can still be good with a enjoyable character all of it's own
-

No, it's like saying when you blow a stunt or the actor corpses it'll get left in. You're comparing additional postwork to what you've stated already are production errors.

i kind of have to agree here. a good example of this is star wars, prequels vs sequels. old skool movie magic still reigns supreme in my book.

LOL that's nowhere near what he is proposing here. He's just complaining against over-produced, over-synthethized and over-plasticized pieces of sound which are distributed as aledged pieces of music. I am not as pessimistic but I understand.
-
Also, while music recorded for an album is performed repeatedly until it's as close to perfect as can be, live performances at concerts by definition cannot be.
-
thats how you tell how good a band really is. on the other hand with digital instruments its hard to tell if they are actually playing or just running programs. drum triggers can **** of and die as well.
-
So, Nuke... What does this qualify as:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RBSkq-_St8
-
the robots are playing analog instruments so i guess its ok.
-
Certainly going to have to go a long way to get more metal than that :eek2:

motorhead is its own genre of music.
