Heard about it before - but it's still funny as hell, gotta love the simple process' beating the expensive ones!
-
Yeah, there was a thread about this a while ago. Still funny as heck :D
..whoa, how'd I get up so early? oh yeah, I didn't sleep.
-
I like the defeating finger print scanning thingys with gummi bears....

Up the revolution!
:nervous: ahem...

Kinda old news, but still funny. On the topic, there is no way of making a copy protection system work while the user (and potential "pirate") has access to both the media containing the data and the playback device...
-
My thought is that if companies didn't spend so much time writing copy protection stuff...lowered the price of their software because of it....it may persuade people to actually buy it. Sounds kinda like an 'honor' system but the fact of the matter is that although Napster alikes are widely prevalent...CD sales are just as good as they used to be if not better.
Digital media and the internet is not something to be feared....its something to embrace. But as predicatably usual...the big companies are the last to clue in that new stuff isn't neccessarily bad.
It happened with the telegraph, it happened with the telephone, it happened with the radio and TV....and things will hopefully remain sane with the Internet too.

Exactly. They spend millions of dollars on copy protection systems that are broken by some unnamed guy ten seconds after they are released, and they spend millions of dollars on stupid lawsuits against companies that provide file-sharing services, just to see two other companies take the place of the one that they just closed. They're just throwing money out of the window and making a big ruckus out of it.

Idiots.
Imagine toasting the eventual collapse of your culture

Notice how all the guys in those pics were over 50? They probably dont even use a computer.. Probably have someone type their stuff up for them..
-
over 50? over 70 I'd say.
anyway, all that is crap, because they can put millions of dallars and stuff like that, against them, there's thousands and thousands of hackers that won't follow schedules or work for money, but their own personal glory, and it's then that anarchy beats structured endeavour.
They all completly miss the point, it's rather pathetic.

Probably due to the slight problem we had with the search indexes a while ago...
-
Yeah, I had some problems with that thing.
Wouldn't let you look up "NTF" for example.

:nervous: :shaking:
*hides his felt tip pens*
errrr
You'll never take them away from me!!!
:wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

Oh well, back to safety pencils and chalk sticks for me, then...
Actually, a pencil is the thing that has wounded me the most in my entire life. Bastard pencils. Marker pens are nicer to me...
-
Oils.
Oil paints are snot of the devil. I can't use them, they're gooey, they're messy and you get your hands covered in muck.
bleurgh.
And you come out smelling like a petrol tank.

You managed to hurt yourself with a pencil? By yourself? Wow... :D

It's an un-funny story.
Once upon I time I was drawing, for some reason. I'm not all that great, but I try. Anyway, I needed to sharpen the pencil, so I did. It was very sharp. I tried to draw with it.
The next part is somewhat hazy...
For some reason the pencil ended up being flicked up into the air. Rather than let it fall to the ground and pick it up, like any sane, normal person would I tried to catch it. Again, I don't know why. Anyway, I caught it. Sharp end first. :o The sharp end pierced my skin, went into the centre of my palm and hit the bone. I think it was chipped or something.
End result = lots of blood, but no pain (must've been in shock). I was in a sling and couldn't write for a couple of weeks (right hand) and I still have an ugly scar to this day.
Commence the mockery, Mr. Sticks! :p

Kellan, you're my hero. :D

Interesting topic. I was doing some experimentation on this very subject. It's very easy to circumvent the corrupted CDs, I managed it first time. They make the CD unplayable on a cumputer by putting a phony data track in (as opposed to an audio CD which has none). The computer reads this data track, can't and either spits the CD out or keeps trying to read it (as is the case with apple macs). By partially covering up the data track, the computer ignores it and goes onto the audio (which is what you want). There are a variety of materials that can be used to do this, which brings us onto the test.
Permanent markers Work fine, but as their name suggests, are permanent. This would be fine but when you cover a bit of the data track, you also cover a bit of the last audio track as well, which means you lose some of it. So it's best to use a non permanent solution.
Masking Tape, the sticky bit off post it notes Works fine and doesn't do anything permanent although there's always the risk that they will come off in your CD drive and fark it up, especially with the warm temperature in there which melts the adhesive.
Dry wipe Markers are by far the best when it comes to ensuring you get fair use of the product that you payed a rip off sum of money for. They're not permanent and don't damage the drive. Just mark a line from the outside of the CD over the slightly discoloured track (that goes about half a centimetre in from the edge) and enjoy music while you're doing whatever you normally do on a computer that doesn't use the sound card.
-
Muwahahaha! All your audio tracks are belong to us! :D

W00t! I can't say that I've done that....but I've done my fair share of embarasing accidents...although in my case I seem to come out relatively unscathed.
For instance....I got my soccer cleats stuck in another players shoelaces....we flipped over each other and he got taken away by stretcher.....and what was my point again? Ahh....I have no point :)
Right.....tally list of illegal copy protection destroying technologies:
- felt tipped pens
- gummy bears
Okk...so thats two. There's got to be more :)

lol :D  :jaw: ;7 ;7 ;7 ;7  ;7

How about using a pencil to allow Athlons to be overclocked? Admittedly, AMD allows the overclocking, however they don't like it, and they remove their warranty if the CPU has been overclocked. With 1Ghz Athlons being able to be overclocked to 1.4Ghz (since they are produced on the same line, but only testing the CPUs for performance decides what frequency they will be used at), this really can bite AMD's profits if everyone decided to overclock instead of buying the top of the line.

Some facts for ya: it wouldn't affect zilch their profits, because people would be overclocking the top of then line processors. ;)

Can't overclock thoroughbreds anyway, not much headroom left in the change from 18u to 13u.
Course 9u would be different matter, but nobodies' got that working yet at all!
