Title: ok, finally, after all the mess.
Post by: Joey_21 on June 18, 2002, 12:52:57 pm
I've released the first public version of System Madness II.

What's taking me so long? Getting out of high school, getting ready to go into the university this fall, making sure I have all the grants/scholarships for it, and moving all of my website data to new websites that I hope I can rely on.

http://denebsystem.cjb.net/orn_downloads.html

12 mb, doesn't include cb animations.

BTW: CB animation pack released (10.7 MB).

Looks nice, I'm downloading it now. Are all those new ships going to be in there? :D

And your point is...?

The sounds work and everything, correct? If it isn't broken then it doesn't need fixing. :)

I did that on purpose because of previous tests. If it works without them in the tables directory then fine, but what's a few extra kilobytes going to hurt?

It isn't, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't fix it :p

How would I fix it if there's nothing to fix? It all works, so it doesn't need fixing. :p :doubt:

I'm curious... how many people have actually tried it out?

I just finished it, I liked it a lot!

Constructive criticism: After the first few missions you simply left the ships to have their default weapons of Prometheus R and Subach HL-7, while a few missions you did remember to give us Kaysers etc. Just a minor complaint.

On one of the missions where the captured cruiser is used to send out ETAK transmissions, when the Lacerta comes along it CAN'T BE DESTROYED since we do not have enough bombs, and fighter weapons do not damage the ship and a support ship is not available. I needed a little 'cheat' to destroy it.

You also didn't make full use of all three axis for fighters.

But.

Earth's night time atmosphere - WOW! I was really impressed by that. :D

Overall its a great campaign! good story although since I didn't play SM1 I didn't really understand the Eridanites, maybe including more about them as a species would be good as well as perhaps learning more about them through the campaign would help people that havn't played the original to understand.

I would like to ask maybe if I goes use the Zephnor in my own campaign - I'm sorry but that is one A1-Supar design!

Very good work, nice to see a campaign actually released. good one.

I left Kaysers out for a little bit in the beginning because I wasn't planning on letting the Eridanites come on too strong just yet.

Lacerta can't be destroyed?! I found that bug and thought I fixed it. I'll look into it. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by all 3 axis on fighters not being used. Could you possibly elaborate?

I thought the Earth's atmosphere turned out pretty good myself. I did notice a few bugs with it though but if they're not noticable by the audience then I guess I covered them up good enough. :D

The Zephnor was designed by untouchable and I did a bunch of the other stuff (turret paths, etc.). If you can find him around and ask him about it then he probably wouldn't say no.

BTW: How do you cheat in FS2 if the codes cause you to not progress in the campaign? :wtf:

Edit: I opened up that Lacerta mission in FRED2 and I found that my fixes were in there. I guess I just forgot to pack it into the VP.

I've uploaded the fix to the main website and tripod (http://jgmart.tripod.com/sm2_0011.zip) (just in case the main server goes down). 6 KB

My 3 axis with the fighters what I mean is that often when they warp in they will all be on the same y-axis, and enter at the y value of 0. Makes a somewhat flat mission - its just a professional touch to add some variety. This wasn't in all of your missions, possibly just a few if you rushed adding enemy fighter wings.

And for some reason, I used the cheats as per normal and it allowed me to progress, simple as that. I was suprised also.

Anyways thanks for fixing it up, you definitely should pimp this campaign a bit more so more have the joy of playing it. Good work again!
