Before either what?

Unless something's gone wrong with the mission, you should be able to fly to the Lucifer and destroy its two remaining Reactor subsystems with plenty of time to spare.

If you're talking about the first time you fight the Lucifer in Age of Aquarius, you cannot actually beat it.  That's a dream sequence, and the Lucifer wins by default.

Probably one of the two or three most frustrating instances in Blue Planet, honestly.  It just sticks in my craw sideways to be forced to lose. :doubt:

The nightmare would be "the curse of prescience".

If the Lucifer is destroyed before you reach it, why is that a problem?
The goal for the mission is to destroy the Lucifer after all.

But without the player attacking it, it shouldn't get destroyed in the first place.... it should jump away if it's hull drops too far. The only way to actually destroy it is, to pop it's reactors (or theoretically to disable it's engines.... but they are so tough you can't make it in time).

no the 2nd time

im not sure whats wrong. i fly straight to it. sometimes its totally damaged to 12% before i arrive and jumps out before i reach it. other times i cannot destroy all the reactors in time.

having my wingmen attack the subsystems is almost totally useless. they do maybe 20% damage to reactors before i finish blowing mine. up.

ive been playing on medium but after my 10th time, i switched to very easy. im still unable to destroy the reactors in time before the ship jumps.

is there anyway to have the other cap ships stop attacking it?

Blind firing here, but could you post a debug log ? (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.msg1180359#msg1180359)

That's really weird. I wonder if the mission balance has changed somehow in newer builds. Have you tried swapping ships to the Missionary?

God forbid you be 'forced' to lose a bad dream in which you're flying a space superiority fighter against a superdestroyer. You must loathe that game called FreeSpace 2, and that other mod War in Heaven. Some of those missions you can't win and they're not even dreams!

I said it was frustrating, not that I hate the whole campaign because of it. :P  I'm in no way forced to like losing even if I'm forced to lose.  Hell, narratively it's an excellent part of the game, it just irritates me in that particular facet of it.

Works fine on Antipodes 8, with the new TEI ships, fully updated WiH.

arghblargh

There's your problem. FSO Installer is broken and outdated. You've most likely an outdated version of BP among other outdated and broken things.

Please DL latest version of AoA here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=68213.0) and WiH here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70745.0).

AoA. You should also upgrade to the recently released 3.6.14 final build.
