Title: Tears of Steel
Post by: karajorma on October 24, 2012, 01:26:49 am
A little surprised that someone a bit more involved in modelling hasn't already posted this. The Blender Institute have a habit of trying to produce high quality animations to show off the program and this one is the latest.

While not the best sci-fi I've seen, it does beat most of the stuff Hollywood produces and it's only about 10 minutes long.

I'm reminded of some people in the industry talking about Star Wars and Star Trek fan movies; they mentioned how modern software increasingly allows fans to produce visuals up to the standard of the greater industry, and that only the acting needs to catch up. This wasn't exactly Citizen Kane, but it's definitely getting better.

Good find!

Well, it was worth watching, although the acting was for the most part terrible (like the main computer operator guy was just so bad that it had to be entirely intentional, no idea why though) and it was pretty unclear what really happened in the end. The CGI isn't exactly on par with Hollywood and it was very clearly CGI, but it wasn't distracting so I don't mind even though I suppose the point was to show off how good CGI Blender can do.

Lulz I've had this in my 'watch later' list for about 2 weeks, I just haven't had the time.

Sintel didn't even have talking/voice actors.

What?

Just watched it tonight. It was a fun ride and killed time quite nicely. Acting was a bit off, but everything else was okay. I didn't mind the CGI effects since I kind of expected it. Aside from acting, the weapons that the scientist had were terrible props.

EDIT: I was also confused by the ending. Are the robots about to kill him, or have they all been "goodified" because Cecelia forgave the guy?
