Title: voices in war in heaven
Post by: joshtb86 on October 25, 2012, 04:25:50 pm
just started war in heavens. the voice is all like computer voice - not acting voice overs. just the computer generated voice like if you type something into word or notepad and have the computer read it back to you. is that right? or did i install something wrong?

WiH has no voice acting. If the Text To Speech is bothering you you can deactivate it from the launcher, but there are no voice acting yet for anything in WiH.

Like most FreeSpace campaigns BP2 has no voice acting. We're a chunk of the way through recording voice-overs, but the script is so huge for this campaign that it's quite a task.

I have a question about participating in the voice acting. What kind of equipment will be needed. Is it enough if I record with my cell phone?
Might be interested to try for a few small roles

oh god no.  not unless the script calls for garbled, damaged comms or REALLY far away type messages.

Just a normal, whatever you can buy mic that doesn't sound scratchy with some reliable sound recording software (like Audacity). Hell, I still have an old Creative rod mic I'm trying to audition with (old school SoundBlaster-age props FTW).

As for the phone idea... depends. Set it down on a table, record, listen... unless we're going to end up in the "telephone quality is a load of horses___t" debacle, in which case I'm not going to go any farther.
