This is the 4th time in one month i needed to reinstall XP ! 10 min ago i get a fatal system error, because it couldn't load the logon screen. tryed every posible way to get into XP but nothing works. And i have everything to protect my pc from weird internet ****. No power cuts, i always shutdown the damn thing as it should. ! In my opinion XP is as screwed as a big pile of dog crap !...So i am switching to win2k. I work whit it at work and on this old pc from my mom ( thats also the one where i am posting this topic whit ) and it works perfectly.
For me WinXP is over going to play frisbee whit the damn ****ed CD !!.

Sucky problem, have you sought out help on why the problem is occuring? Could it be heat from the system or anything like that?
(just stabs in the dark, I know nothing of XP)...

nah, it deserves to be a go cart tire :D

Sounds like you have a CPU cooling problem most likely. Either that or maybe you have to update your win XP. Goto the MS update site and update your comp. Or possibly your drivers; many hardware components need specific drivers designed for XP.
But most likely, it is from heat. I used to have a problem with win98 on my P233 ... the CPU fan died... Causing login errors, causing the computer to crash within 15 minutes, etc...

I checked it software wise and hardware wise...mainly the cooling.
My cpu stay's around 22/27 Celscius. and also a fan that covers 80% of my vidcard. It's weird as it all worked fine yesterday, no virus stuff all drives defraged no other errors. So i am in the dark about what the problem could be.
And the worst thing is that i lost allot of my B5 episodes and movies:sigh:. I am not very happy. And win2k is it for me it's stable, works fast better performence etc.

Just a tip: Remove your memory cards and clean the connectors with an eraser or a clean piece of cloth, reconnect them and try again. The problem might be that the connectors are oxidating (sp?), causing problems when you try to read and write to the memory. Had that a while ago, took me a while to find out the problem.

I have my case wide open so it as cool as the north pole, but then again it sucks up dust this way. i'll see if that works. And i also got a hardware adres. ( 0000000x000000 ) proberly a memory problem.

Let this be a lesson not to use WinXP.
Damn Bill Gates to the deepest bowels of hell!:mad2:

For all of the thousands of problems you seem to be having....I have none. My computer has never before been so stable as under Windows XP. Why I haven't had a crash since I started running it. I'm shocked and amazed at that....never under any other OS was I able to be so stable.
Your problems have been quickly blamed on the OS. Maybe its something else...I'm just suggesting not to come to conclusions.

you sound annoyingly like Ten of Twelve. Sure, blame it all on the OS.
of course, I'm only saying this because, my XP won't run that well, so I have to settle with the crash-happy Win98

I installed win2k and it runs sw33t ! and l33t:D

maybe I'll try it someday now, next to Linux on a dual boot

w2k has specifik drivers, as well. XP/2k has the WHQL driver certification thing. Certified drivers should work without problem.
-
The hardware worked fine, and winxp installation also worked perfectly. But some how it screws up. And i don't have a problemm installing it but after 4 times in a month i get prety pissed. Proberly i'll make it a dual boot whit linux.

Hey now! Not all of us are Linux zealots. I'm a Daemon worshipper myself. ;) FreeBSD all the way.

Windows 2000P would be good, i've never had any trouble with it.
Windows ME sucks, that's a given of course,
and Windows XP still has some bugs... my version does anyway
stick with 2000P and you should be fine...
let us know if you encounter any more problems though ;)

Yeah, win 2000p or XP are the best of the bunch... Win ME is really bad... For the rest, win 98SE is better than 98 or ME or 95

I used 98se for 2 years and it worked fine, not as good as win2kp or ( cough cough ) winXP...but i enjoyed working whit it.

i still run 98SE on one of mine

I,ev heard of it, doesnt run any games, over complicated(you need to be a programmer to use it) and poor overall.

I'm gonna conduct a little experiment:
I've already got RH7.1 (default boot), Win98SE and FreeBSD on one comp and I'm gonna see if I can get Win20oO on there as well. Although I'll probably have to clear everything and load 'em: 98SE, 2000, BSD, RH.

You obviously heard wrong, it's got quite a few games... i mean of course it doesn't have as many as Windows, but the good side is far better than the worse!
You don't have to be a programmer to use it... perhaps to access some of its best features, yes, but it's quite easy for the average person to use... fairly like Windows :D ;) lol
And, of course, it's much, much more stable than Windows.
That's one reason many people use it for servers.

WHOOOAAAHHHH!!! i didn't see this bit!
Who told you it's poor overall? Linux is probably known to be the most stable and best overall operating system in the world!

Yes... That's what I'd expect from the good side.

Linux doesn't run much, and each manufacturer has a slightly different version. And they use Unix for servers, not Linux. Unix is far more stable, far more powerful, and (I think) far more expensive. However, I'll stick with W98SE.
-
I have the dreaded WinME at the moment (:p) but it works reasonably well, and I cannot remember too many crashes recently. I would have already upgraded to 2000 or XP if it were not for the dos compatibility issues, but I am still considering trying out a dual-boot.

Unix is much better than Windows, yes, but Linux is in the middle, between them.
And a lot of people use Linux for webservers.

Well people,
listen to a very old DOS user (1988)...
The old good MS-DOS was the most reliable system ever made.
Windows 95 i think it could be a beta of Win 98, who got to be good enough with 98SE.
Windows Millenium is an eye candy improved version of win 98.
All the previous systems, if you don't overload them with crap, or use crappy or overclocked hardware runs fairly well.
The Windows NT/2000/XP family is the best you can find as reliability.
If they crash is mostly because compatibility issues, or because you messed with system files, and most internet crap does, but even in that case you will need an HUGE amount of crap in order to overrun system preservation routines.
I've used every MSFT system, and exstensively...
If you buy good hardware and treat them well they won't be really unreliable...
linux suffers of too many compatibility issues, and it's a server oriented system, because is derived from unix.
Now, i'm sure that the omnipresents linuxers will swarm and flame over me, but this is the plain truth.
Currently i'm using Win XP Pro since almost one year and it NEVER crashed, and so did Win 2000 when i used it.
Don't blame on MSFT for everything people, it's useless and won't solve your problems.
