Title: Problem with Freespace 2 Open
Post by: Tantras on November 15, 2012, 11:55:43 am
So after a few years I decided to return to FreeSpace and have installed on my Current PC, this is an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz, with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti graphics card running Windows 8 (I know but due to work I needed Hyper-V) it has 16GB of RAM.

However when I try and start Launcher (5.5g) I get an error message: Failed EnumAdapterModes in UpdateAntialiasList and when I go to the Video tab the screen resolution dropdown box is empty.

The game will launch and play but as a small screen in the top left, does anyone have any ideas?

If I run the native game (GOG download version) it runs full screen 800x600 (i think) with no problem, but on a 1920 monitor I want all the nice graphics!

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

That is weird. Can you post us a debug log (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.msg1180359#msg1180359) ?

Try putting -res 1920x1080 in the "Custom flags" field of your Feature tab.

Or try with wxLauncher (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=67950.0) instead of 5.5g.

The 5.5g launcher does not work correctly on Win8.

Luckily, there is an alternative that doesn't have these issues (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=67950.0)

That seemed to do the trick, thanks  ;)

Ah, if maintenance of the old Windows launcher is being halted, does that mean wxLauncher will become the official soon? Sw33t!

Not halted, exactly, but considering that Win 8 is the only OS with this issue, it's pretty definitely low priority.
