Title: Graphical glitch - Ship thrusters
Post by: castun on November 17, 2012, 11:13:45 am
Been a while since I've played with FSO, so I've recently reinstalled and downloaded the updated files.

I'm having an issue though with a somewhat annoying graphical glitch, and I'm not sure if it's a known common problem or if there's something wrong on my end.

Basically, the glow of the ship thrusters shows through the ship hull at medium to close range.  It also has a 'blocky artifacting' quality to it where there are blocky patches where it DOESN'T bleed through.

Here is a screenshot showing the issue:

I have attached my debug log in case that is needed.

Thanks in advance.

For starters,
Code: [Select]
Found root pack 'D:\Freespace2\mediavps_3612\3613_Update.vp' with a checksum of 0x19cf9a3d
remove this file. I don't remember when exactly it was needed for something (or why) but it most certainly is not needed anymore.

Must have been an older file left over from before, double checked all the downloaded files for 3.6.1.2 mediavps and it wasn't in there.

Deleted it and tried again, the glitches are still present.

Attached an updated debug file.

The issue is a little glitch in the graphics hardware due to some depth buffer stuff we're doing. It's a code bug that will have to be fixed codeside; Aside from updating your GPU drivers and hoping that fixes it, there's nothing much to do.
