Title: Steam Autumn Sale - Grab Them While They're Hot
Post by: Dragon on November 21, 2012, 02:13:56 pm
Steam Autumn sale has started, introducing Valve's a new invention: Flash deals. They're fairly short lasting (8h left on the shortest ones as of this writing), and rather good, up to 75%. If you have good reflex, you can score some good deals. My dad just bought KoTOR II for my younger brother (who's big on SW games), and I think it's just the start.

If they offer "Legends of Pegasus" , DO NOT BUY IT.

It's a not working piece of code with some graphics attached. 2 Emergency patches have been released, then the devs gone insolvent. Promised and advertised features are not including, and the campaign has scripting errors that prevent you from continuing. Ai is nearly not existent, and only 1 AI slot is active in Sandbox mode.

THe entire game and advertising was a huge fraud on the customer, puplisher remains silent and gives no more statements, they are still selling it to gain some money for the shareholders.

Just wanted to warn you people.

(tragic, I waited so long for an ascendancy clone).

That's strange. The game is coming from Kalypso, which is a fairly good RTS publisher (OK, Patrician 4 was crash-prone, but Tropico and Imperium Romanum were rock-solid).

Just bought the add-on for Civ5...started a game as byzantine...and the game crashed...yeahha.
Time to reinstall the whole thing...if it doesn't work...reinstalling windows is due...

True Dragon, some games are not bad. But in this case, it was a huge action of fraud from the puplisher. I don't want to spam the HLP forum with it, you can check the official forum. At the release day (which has obviously been pushed because money run out) they already knew what will happen, because insolvency do not happen over night. But they were so "suprised" about the "status" of the game (which they claimed "runned through an official testing studio"), and they were "so suprised about the insolvency". Game is not working, floods of returns on Steam on Amazon, and they still selling it. It's a matter of misleading advertising (the promo ingame video show graphics and features not in the game, the AI and living universe is not existent). And after they said that the game is dead (1 month after release), they completly stopped talking to the LoP Customers. They just sit back, and wait till all users **** off, what they now did. Yet still, they sell the game.

I will never buy a game again from kalypso, and certainly not preorder anything anymore. The more time passed, the less you can trust the gaming companies. They just milking you were they can.

Just trust me in this guys, do not buy "Legends of Pegasus". It's not worth a single cent, since it's not even really moddable, source code will also not be released. You will loose your money.

No, Kerb fixed their game, and were honest about the status from the beginning, even if the release version was a desaster. Kalypso was lying from the very beginning, and still continues with their faked advertising and not communicating with people about the issue.

BTT :

Question to german players :

When I would buy Fallout3 GOTY Edition in the Steam Special Sale, will I then receive the violence-reduced german version ? I'm not interested in having something cut out. I already have Fallout3 the English version, but I do not have the DLC "officially". Anyone know this ? I'm a bit unsure about what I will receive when reading their textes. Unfortunately, Steam recognized "where" I'm from

It depends if the gore level is language-dependent or region-dependent, and if the game is language-locked. Though it's a big name title, so I guess the short answer is yes, you'd get a toned down version.
As for Kalypso, I hope LoP is only a one-off blunder. Most of their games are good, and for example, I'd buy the next Tropico eventually, just not on release, and not without a big discount on Steam (though TBH, this is my strategy for most games except the ArmA series, of which I like to have boxed versions. Too long exposure to Steam and it's sales can make you really cheap, to the point of 10 Euro seeming like a lot).

Also, anybody knows what's "Dear Eshter"? It certainly looks intriguing.

Kotor2 is awesome, I can really recommend it. it has a long and good story, and the game will bind you for many hours :) Also, there is a unofficial Addon that brings back some cut out features and also a widescreen patch. The game runs nice and fluid on 1920x1080. I guess it "should" work on the steam version too (not sure about that though  :nervous:)

EDIT: Although, it may destroy film and music for you, so you might regret that.

I took a gander and finally succumbed and bought Skyrim.  The Trine Collection was also nabbed and finally Chivalry: Medieval Warfare.  It'll be interesting trying that one out, being a Kunst Des Fetchens practitioner I'll probably be wicked overcritical and get pissed when I can't Zwerch and Krump like a boss.

Well, as long as my battles end up with either of lots of peasant riflemen chopped up by melee weapons or dead samurai shot to hell by lines of precisely-drilled elite riflemen (or Gatling gun batteries), I'll be happy.
