Look at these graphics! This is from Lock On: Modern Air Combat:

Very pretty, but how does it play? It's been my experience that all recent modern air sims have been really technical and close to photo realistic but really boring on the gameplay side.
-
That is damn good. The best sim in recent memory, I think, was IL-2.
-
FS2k2 is great, especially multiplayer.
the only problem is you need to run SATCO as well as Nav2k2 in order to have full ATC support, and it tends to drain your RAM

Wow, I never really understood how unintellgible acronyms and abbreviations could make a sentence unreadable.
I d nw.

How come the plane has no engine flare, no lights, or indeed nothng to indicate it hasn;t been pre-rendered and cut-and-paste onto a background?
Plus, do the waves actually move?
-
[q]Said by me...sometime:
Nice render. But schmeh; modern flying games are dull. Recreating WW2 dogfighting in space is where it's at *ahem*[/q]
-
Hm, looks good, but an ocean is hardly the best example to show off an engine...

Hmm, you're right. There's no sense of movement or potential movement at all. :wtf:

The move in your mind. In your miiiiiinnnndd.....

Meh, should I sate the obvious or not... :D :p

Looks more like a render.
-
They should at least have the heat coming from the exhaust making the air a little warped, i don't know what word to use, but you know what i mean
awesome though!!!

That image is actually not all that detailed in terms of polygon count, as the water is probably a flat surface with a wave texture. The plane looks nice but is comparable to those of other games; the lighting on the water is really the only thing that makes it resemble a render.

sadly, I have to agree. :sigh:
-
the plane is't very well lit, but it like the bump mapping on the water.
-
Plus, the lighting on that missile wing (bottom rear) seems off... I'm sure that surface should be dull, not bright.
I reckon is probably a cut and paste job.... render the plane model(quickly), test the graphics engines little sea, and mess about with photoshop. Or it's a non-final implementation. And there's no guarentee that the engine can sustain numerous high-q models, complex AI and lighting, in the first (possibly second0 case.
-
I've seen some promo vids and even when there's like 10 jets and a ton of battleships it still looks damn good.

Its not using its afterburners maybe? Even then, we should at least see heat distortion and a small amount of smoke....

Like er... I forget. the wavy stuff off the top of radiators. Or, in other countries, from the ground on a hot day.

IL-2 Sturmovik is probably the best sim ever. It's the most realistic sim I have ever played, it looks fantastic (If you haven't seen the damage effects, you haven't lived computer gaming to it's fullest. Plus, and this is the most important, it's actually FUN! I mean, it really is fun! I started to take some life off of my pants out of sheer enjoyment, before (literally) I ever lifted of the ground. Even bailing out and crashing is fun!
-
This proves that none of the above were renders:
(http://www.lo-mac.com/ss/dead_eagle.jpg) This was taken from a multiplayer match between developers, at least that's who I think Geiger and Wags are.
-
*is amazed*
-
-
oooooooooh! that's Flanker 2.0 sequel! All my doubts just vanished, this game is most likely a winner
-
:yes2::eek::yes:
I must say that looks awesome...
-
 :jaw: :jaw: :jaw:
HOLY ****! Must...have...game...
-
And here's another couple screenies, this time from IL-2 Sturmovik:

[neo] Whoa. [/neo]
-
Looks damn sweet !
-
Doesnt play as good as it looks.
-
Zeronet, when was the last time you took your pills?:D IL-2 was GREAT! Seriously, simply bailing out was fun! you got to se this little guy run across a field, then duck for cover as his plane blows up behind him. It's a gritty, extremely realistic, and, amazingly, has an original setting (The Great Patriotic War, 1941-1945).

well, if you're expecting FS2 like gameplay, that's for sure :p
