I don't mind what I get on Christmas. Pretty much anything will do, as long as I'm inebriated when I get it. Which is always the case anyway.

what i want is to spend as much of the holiday as possible with a certain special lady. what i'm going to get is blown off or continued completely ignored for reasons unknown. :( x1000
as far as stuff, there's really nothing i want, but i would like to know just what the hell to get for the rest of my family. i easily have the money to get them nice/worthwhile things, but have NO ideas.

- Magically convince a certain several female "friends" (perceived, anyway) from high school to be my friends "again"... or for the first time... or acquaintances again... or Facebook/IM friends who actually bother to respond to IMs and treat me like a real person instead of something to be ignored, then blocked/unfriended, and then forgotten.
- Character animation/physics stuffs in my FPS to suddenly magically be working and awesome (and fast), without using somebody else's code.

- Starship Troopers: Invasion. Nuke tells me it's better than the previous two sequels!

Yeah, it sucks to be there, not knowing how to get out of it. But trust me, life is beautiful once you find the way out and you always learn a lot about yourself in the process. Is The Raid: Redemption any good? I heard it was basically one angry police officer beating up an entire apartment building of drugged-out machete and knife psychos for the entire movie, so were the fight scenes suitably brutal?

Brutal is almost an underestimating. Pure no-holds fights make up almost the whole film. If that's what you want, then it might be best film for that ever IMO.

I've been told by several people that it's basically the martial-arts version of Dredd, so I'm sort of compelled to check it out since I'm rather fond of Dredd. I've not actually watched it yet, but I gather it's probably the most physically demanding movie on the actors released in 2012.
Consulting those who have, they say it's more than sufficiently brutal; it might actually be a hard watch if you're not prepared for it.

I saw The Raid: Redemption, and it was epic. Martial Arts version of Dredd is a very accurate description.
I think Dredd was slightly more squeamish though. But only slightly. Slow-mo bullet through the face = TOP SCORE

i don't remember dredd being all that overly gorey. at least by today's standards. maybe the slo-mo and the bad 3d softened it up for me.

Update!
I'm definitely getting Starship Troopers: Invasion, and I reasonably expect to get Assassin's Creed 3.
I don't expect to get world peace, and I don't expect any of the aforementioned female friends to have a sudden overwhelming sense of pity for me and unblock me, etc.
And idunno if I'll make any significant progress on my FPS engine.

What i did want and got myself?
A car for winter. 89 buick century with the 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine (better mpg compared to the ones with the 3.3 liter v6). You can drive a ford escort 2 door model in -50f. However, that car was not designed for winter at all. Windows always iced over...keeping for a summer commuter.
After that, destroying christmas for others by telling them what they got, and immediately presenting it to them weeks before the festive holiday. this is worth it.

I've got a handheld GPS, a webcam, some good books, Take On Helicopters and a whole bunch of stuff on Steam. I would've preferred to get time to read instead of books, but I guess even Santa isn't exempt from Minkovsky physics. Well, anyway, there goes the next year. :)
My gifts were pretty modest, and I'm rich by Polish standards and have pretty much everything I want. However, my younger brother does not, and guess what he got. A @#$! Vuwzela! Well, I guess it's time to swipe a cork from one of those wine bottles emptied during the Christmas Eve Supper... He also got Skyrim, so hopefully it'll occupy both him and my youngest brothers long enough for the cats to chew the darn thing up. :)

Got money and vouchers, a nice bottle of Auchentoshan scotch and another of rum, and some boozey accoutrements. Gave (to various people) plane tickets to Melbourne, Little Big Planet Karting, the Battlestar board game, some books, vouchers and Body shop lotiony stuff.

i got some dremel stuff and a train set. the dremel stuff i needed, like the flex cable and saw attachment, which i needed for my cnc and pcb fabrication projects, respectively. the train set was an n scale alaska railroad set with a basic oval track. i havent been into trains since i was about 6, but it has been quite amusing watching the cat attack the thing. i hear my sister got me something awesome but wont get to open it till the weather is good enough to for them to get the boat cross the narrows in one piece.

Which are both excellent options, but here in Canada comes to about $180 before taxes. And I have $135, and about $50 of that needs to go to shoes. What I was looking at was a Cooler Master K350 which will be on sale for $24.99 and/or a Corsair CX500 on sale for $29.99 (enough considering the system it'll be going in, Core2Quad Q6700 with a GTX 650) - both of which are on sale for boxing day at a computer store that normally I would have no issue getting to, but as I am unable to drive at the moment it is much more difficult to get there. So it depends on whether I get a ride and if the lineup isn't too bad.
Anyhow, wrong place to have parts discussions, carry on!

and didn't get COMPLETELY shut out by the lady. 2 texts received so far, one general 'merry christmas' probably mass texted to her entire contact list, and an actual response to one i sent her saying she wasn't ignoring me. not sure i completely believe that yet. remains to be seen if i will get to actually see her in person. or even talk on the phone for that matter. if not, trying to gather the testicular fortitude to leave the voice message containing what i should have said a long damn time ago but pussied out of every time i had a chance.
who has a time machine i can borrow?

Ask out for a cup of coffee. It's actually a lot easier than it seems. Find yourself in a nice situation to pop the question too. One time I did it, was so the gal would have a better chance remembering my name. It worked, but never did get that coffee. Second time was just through instant messaging saying I hadn't the opportunity to do so at work with business being great and all. I did get that coffee

this girl is one of my oldest friends, and honestly one of the few real, lasting ones i have. we've been on what you might call dates several times, but only once or twice a year since high school. i've never been able to springboard from that into a relationship.

seems to me the only difference is i'm getting a bit of a brush off instead of full on ignore. it's been a year since she's said anything to me other than turning me down for stuff. and tbh, i shouldn't even count last christmas. the last time we talked where it didn't feel like something was wrong was a year and a half ago when i was leaving from visiting her while she was studying abroad.
in any case, this whole thing has got me in such a wreck (combined with extended family visits including insanely hyper cousins/nephew ages 2, 3, and 5, and my loser brother in law) that i've not managed to call up the one real friend i have left in this town.
