Hello everyone !
I'm having an issue with the game at Mission 3 I think (you start in the Hangar Deck, launch, a raider comes in, you can't destroy it, it jumps and then 3 cylon battleships jump in)
The game crashes and I don't know why or how it seems to be very random.
I tried to decrease my graphical settings, but nothing changes (not even the FPS in fact, going from 1440x900 Very High FSAA to 1280 High No FSAA doesn't change "that much" the fps i'm always low :/)
I've also tried to cut all the "running programs" to prevent low memory warnings, but it still crashes ...
Is there any way to skip the mission ?
Or what are my possible options now ?
PC specs : Win 7 Ultimate, C2D T9400, 4Gb DDR2, Ati 3650 (Mobility), Vertex 2 120Gb.
And the latest "general" settings I tried are :
C:\Games\Diaspora\fs2_open_Diaspora_R1.exe -missile_lighting -cache_bitmaps -rearm_timer -warp_flash -snd_preload
-no_3d_sound -fps -ambient_factor 90 -spec_exp 0.7 -spec_tube 1.0 -spec_point 0.7 -spec_static 1.0 -ogl_spec 15
-bloom_intensity 20
in 1280, Bilinear, High in game.
Any help or advice will be appreciated :D
Thank you and have a nice day !

If you're flying a Viper and are launching from the flight pod, not a tube, that's actually mission 6. Was the previous mission dealing with the Theseus refueling by any chance?
At any rate, we'll need you to post a debug log (generated by running the game with a debug build set in the launcher. Play until it crashes and post the log it generates - file name should be "fs2_open.log".) Also, did you apply the latest patch?
-
Newman's last question is an especially good one as Mission 6 is known to have had issues until patch 1.0.4.
-
Yep I realized it was mission 6 when I looked some videos on youtube :) I'm editing the title.
Latest patch has been applied, although when I launch the Diaspora launcher I can still see the piece of news about the patch (But I think that's how it's supposed to be ...)
I tried again to play this mission and the first time everyting went fine (well ... I lost just about the time when Thesus is saying something about launching nukes at this distance is crazy) and the second time, it crashed when the 3rd cylon ship arrived :/
I'll post the debug file as soon as possible !

But it's random, I didn't do anything this time (I mean I didn't even try to complete the mission ... I was just hanging out with the non battlestar ships)

lol a ship rotating too far.
Seems like an AI error. <-GENIUS! :P
-
Not every ship ! an Evac Raptor ... fraking bus drivers :p
I'll try again later and see if the error is the same
-
Ok I tried and failed again, so I decided to check on youtube how to it, and the first thing that shocks me is that the The Theseus only starts with 40 life unlike on this vid : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkQZw7JdksQ where it starts with 74 (?) is it because I screwed the last mission ? Because it's really hard even in easy mode to make it ... (and the 7fps due to windowed game doesn't help...)
Edit 2 : Other Bug :/

It's good you run debug build now, but debug log is actually a file. It should be located in your "Diaspora/data/" as "fs2_open.log". Please upload it. Also, is there any valid reason to run the game in windowed mode?

I just followed the post : http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.0
and copied the text i got when the crash happened, I didn't think it would be different on the log.
But it is :S ...

I'm also getting repeated crashing on this mission -- I've tried playing it like 8 times in a row now and crashed randomly while dogfighting raiders between the base-stars... much sadness.

Sorry for the thread necro, but I'm having the same issue. The game crashes at approximately the same point every time - after the third Cylon Basestar jumps in, and around about the same time that one of your wingmen says something along the lines of "we're going to mess these Cylons up" (poorly paraphrased).
Is this a known issue? I'll grab a debug log tomorrow and post it if needed.

Aaaand I just realised the installer version I downloaded from Ausgamers is 1.0, not 1.0.4. I'll install the patch and see if it fixes the bug.
edit: Yep, that fixed it. Now I feel dumb.

Yes, would love to have that intermittent bug squashed
