Title: Interest Check- Dwarf Fortress LP
Post by: IronBeer on December 27, 2012, 07:47:24 pm
So I've been thinking of doing a Dwarf Fortress LP. I used to be pretty into it a couple years ago, and while I've still got the dwarfy mindset, I'm not up to date on the latest developments. Thus, various amounts of !!FUN!! may be had when I attempt to wrangle the new features/bugs/monsters/etc. The purpose of this thread is multifold, but quite straightforward.

For forumites who want to journey with me to madness and violent death glory and uncountable riches, please provide me with the following info:
1.) Your preference (if any) for the location of the HLP fortress. If you have a more specific preference, feel free to share.
2.) In the spirit of the HLP-XCOM LPs, state your preferred moniker and profession for your dwarf. Forumites wanting to be a part of the founding seven may have a harder time seeing their job preferences matched, since I'm very picky about the starting skills I take. Post-settlement I can be a lot more flexible.

When I start the actual LP thread a couple days in the future, I'd prefer if people wanting to join in the !!FUN!! posted here, rather than in the LP thread. Let's try and keep this as the "administrative" thread for the time being. Also, I'm not planning on this LP being a succession fort, but I miiight be persuaded to do some agreed-upon projects or shenanigans (ask nicely! ;))

1) Maximum fun location.
2) "Polpolion McSizzler", Miner.

This will be great.

1) I have no idea, but the sound of "plentiful resources" is good. And a little bit of danger.
2) "Scourge of Granite" and whatever you need, I don't know what classes there are.

1) I agree with Polpolion, whatever's most conducive to fun.
2) "Commandah DeeJay", and whatever profession is required. I'd like to be part of the founding seven if at all possible, so stick me in whatever job suits you.

Dangerous with plentiful resources sounds like it might be the most conducive to all sorts of fun shenanigans.  I don't really know how the game mechanics work, but you can throw me in as some hapless dwarf somewhere.

Name: Scotty the Strobe (or whatever, as long as one of those two names is in there, it's good).
Profession, first preference: Jeweller
Profession, second preference: Miner

I concur with Mongoose on going dangerous (or perhaps moderately unsafe) with abundant resources.

I'll sign up as Wat Gneissbutte  -- Metal Smith, Ranger, or Craftsdwarf, whatever you think is best. :)

Plentiful resources and most dangerous location for maximum carnage!
Also, Kobrar Beggerin, Axeman! Or hunter, maybe farmer. Ideally sheriff.

Ok, just to provide a little heads-up to all interested parties. I haven't forgotten about this, and am planning to get started ideally today or tomorrow.

I wasn't aware that was a thing. Historically I've used Dwarf Therapist (awesome external program), and I've generally ran with some relatively small RAW file changes.

I strongly recommend using dfhack BtW: it incorporates a really slick in-game version of DT, adds search to a lot of lists and has fixes for several major bugs.

I vote Moderately Safe, Plentiful resources!!!

We have the inventory to make life interesting, but won't get eaten before we're self-sufficient...

I hope :/

If it's not too late, put me in as a craftsdwarf so I can be struck by a fey mood and then go insane.

Everyone can be taken by a fey mood, regardless of skills and labor, AFAIK. Pretty annoying having your legendary miner get enter a fey mood and claim a workshop when he's in the middle of carving out your great hall.

Copied from the actual LP thread. Just to go with your request to keep the signups here in this thread.

"Ok. If you need more HLP:ers (as I expect), count me in.
And as I said on the HLP-Xcom if the lord of RNG decides to bend my dwarven gender you might aswell use a nick "Gortina" for that."

Seeing how the fortress is under (more) threat, I'll sign up for the militia! Just Pred will be fine.
