Title: Free & Legit Photoshop! (Sorry if old news) EDIT: Or not, i seems...
Post by: T-Man on January 07, 2013, 03:18:26 pm
A freind just showed me this on facebook: (http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2013/01/grab-photoshop-and-cs2-for-absolutely-free-right-now/#.UOrngbNZfuk.facebook) (sorry if it's old news around here).

Apparently it is legit; Adobe is allowing registrations for a free version of Photoshop CS2 suite (bit old, but not majorly IIRC). My Dad had also heard and said apparently it's missing a few of the 'processors' (sorry, i'm not a techie so not quite sure what he means :() but by the sounds of it, it is indeed CS2 suite. Thought i'd spread the word; hope it's handy for texturers out there.

NOTE: At time of writing, Adobe website is (unsuprisingly ) currently down due to overload of download requests. If you are interested you'll have to keep an eye on it.

EDIT: Ah, just recheked the article today turns out it was some kind of muck-up folks. (http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2013/01/why-adobes-massive-photoshop-fail-couldve-been-a-clever-business-move/). It ain't going to be for free. Sorry if i got anyone's hopes up; officially confused now. :sigh:

For Mac users: the Mac release is PowerPC, not Intel, meaning that it will run on OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or earlier, but not on Lion or Mountain Lion, unless there's some way to get PowerPC applications to run on those versions (and I don't think there is).

Okay, so their officially not giving it away for free--officially, they put up serial numbers so their customers can still install the software after they take down the activation servers, but everyone knows it's just going to be used to get the software for free.

Come to think of it, though, $50/month for the entire CS isn't a bad deal.  It looks like that includes upgrades to CS7 whenever they become available.  Over 2 years (rough average between CS releases), that's $1,200, but you get access to over $2,500 worth of software.  If you only use (say) Photoshop, that's $20/month = $480, compared to just buying the latest Photoshop for $700.  (I really wish I had enough use for it to justify paying for it.)

Or you could just pirate it.

Or use GIMP.

$2,500 worth of software
Open-source FTW :P

Granted, maybe (just maybe) the GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) is only half as capable as Photoshop - but it has a price/quality ratio you can't beat!

True enough.  And I've been using GIMP so long, when I opened up Photoshop CS2 yesterday, I couldn't remember how to use it.

I'm pretty sure Adobe knew what they were doing when they put this up.  To keep their lawyers happy, they've got to officially say that they're not giving it away, but everyone knows they are, and I'm pretty sure they'll turn a blind eye to it.

That's bull**** reasoning.

The world is built upon bull****.  Everywhere you go, everything you see--it would be impossible if it weren't for bull****.  Bull**** is the essence of humanity--the staff of life!
