Greetings.
This my very first encounter with errors for FSO, after getting the BP2 complete update.
First, upon getting it, is to make a new pilot and "try" playing a single mission, namely the Kentaroi race. This is what I get:

Uhh... where's my HUD? Now I'm flying blind.
Okay, that didn't end well. Next up, try to play the actual campaign, namely BP2. Upon loading, I got this nice message:

Whut? I just done a round (blindly) with my current resolution.
After which, I exit the game and re-enter it, it straight away give me the resolution error message after the intro cutscene and choosing my previous pilot that I just made. Oddly, when re-enter again and making a new pilot, I can enter the mainhall screen.
Now, I'm stumped...
Thanks.

Are you using wxLauncher, or the regular one? What resolution is set there?
-
Using the regular launcher, and my resolution is set at 1440x900. Oddly, using the Print Screen makes my pic, in a 4:3 ratio.
-
Well, the engine says it's running at 800x600, 16bit. Please download and install wxLauncher (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=67950.0), and use that to set the resolution.

Thanks for the suggestion, tried using the wXlauncher with these settings:

Yet it yielded the same result:

Question.
Is the BP2 update compatible with the original 1999 version (which I'm using) of the game?
Yes, this is the only game that had survived since I first got it in 2000.

Yes. Although it is highly recommended that you patch retail FS2 to version 1.2. A package with the altered files can be found here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/Downloads/HotUv1.20Pack.rar
Extract all VP files from it, and copy them into your FS2 directory.

Thanks for the update files. =)
But after extract, I noticed... both from the ones I'd downloaded and my existing one are the same, except for the date (I've kept the old as a backup).
So, I used the newly downloaded ones and... its still reporting that FS2 is running on 800x600 from the debug file.
I'll get back later tomorrow.
Thanks.

When I said "use the launcher to set the resolution", I meant "Go to the Launcher's Basic Settings tab, and set it there", not use the -res commandline flag.
-
I got this same error often in various mods on Resolutions over 1920x1080. Like 2560x1440 or even on 2048x1152. :(
Have you tried 1280x720? Only to see if this works correctly? 1400x900 is not so common afaik.
-
@The E: Yes, I did try several resolution from the wxLauncher. And replaced the files to the ones you'd gave.
@Deepstar: Tried your suggestion, no go.
I've downloaded the latest AMD Catalyst 12.10, I'm still stuck at 800x600.
Included is the latest log file.
I'm stumped. orz

No wonder you can't run in higher resolutions--you're missing sparky_hi_fs2.vp, which is needed for 1024x768 resolution and higher. You may need to reinstall the game to get this (and make sure that all components are selected in the installer).
Regardless, I also recommend doing these things:
- Move Root_fs2-old.vp out of the FS2 folder; your game is still loading this, and you could run into more problems if it remains there. EDIT: Same thing for bp-audio2-old.vp in your blueplanet folder. FS2 loads all VP files that it finds, so you need to delete or move the old files; simply adding "old" to the file name isn't enough.
- Your MediaVPs are not up-to-date. Delete 3613_Update.vp and get the update files from the release thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70736.0).

@Yarn.
Guessed what, that DID do the trick! :banghead:
It'd work BEAUTIFULLY.

To The E and Yarn, thank you very much for your help.
