Does the FS community make much use of social media? Are there any FS-mod-community-related blogs, Twitter feeds, etc? Or is HLP pretty much it?
-
I have heard we have a facebook and google+ page. That's probably it.
-
Some people from HLP have a tumblr, well barely. There's only something like 3 people from here who have a tumblr, including me.
-
There's also @HardLightPro on Twitter.

I've been thinking about maybe doing a blog. Perhaps a more mainstream news format could get more people interested in the game. Spotlights on new projects, news about releases, asset of the day/week/month/whatever spotlights (e.g. ships, textures, interface art, demo missions) to bring interest to projects under development, and other miscellaneous highlights (e.g. fanart, fanfiction, fan videos). Maybe throw in a few tutorials here and there.
Thoughts? Great idea? Won't work? Unnecessary/redundant?

There is the Freespace Subreddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/freespace).

Wait, mainstream ? I thought blogs stopped being popular a decade ago ?

No, blogs per se only stopped being popular a few years ago. Forums stopped being popular a decade ago. Certain types of blogs--especially ones oriented toward a specific topic--still are popular. For example, Cheezburger Network is a collection of blogs and is very popular. Gawker Media's various blogs are still quite popular. The blog Equestria Daily was instrumental in the rise of the brony phenomenon.

I'm actually an admin or something of the FB page. All I ever really do is answer join requests. Dekker's the one who started it, so ask him about it. :p
