Title: Main Hall Error
Post by: Drflash55 on February 02, 2013, 06:59:52 pm
I was playing Freespace Open V 3.6.16-NO-SSE, and then the game suddenly crashed. I thought it was nothing so I tried to start it back up again. It was fine until it got to the main hall after the pilot select screen, and then it showed this.

Malloc Failed!
<no module>! KiFastSystemCallRet
<no module>! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
<no module>! <no symbol>
<no module>! <no symbol>

I am not sure if the fs2_open.log tells anything about the main hall problem, or does it?

Do you absolutely need to use NO SSE for some reason?

I don't understand what SSE means. Even though there's a topic explaining it, I can't understand what's the meaning of it. So I just used NO SSE. If I have to get the SSE versions, I don't have to create backups of my save files do I?

Where is sparky_hi_fs2.vp?

Additionally, your install seems to be corrupted, your checksums do not match what they should:

Where is sparky_hi_fs2.vp?:

I PM'd a message to Jeff Vader about this. I didn't get Sparky_Hi_FS2.vp in the 2nd part of the Freespace 2 game. I have been looking everywhere for a file download of it!  :(

Also, changing build type from NO-SSE to SSE to SSE2 will not require redoing any pilot or save date or anything else.

If you have a processor that is (or is newer) than an original Intel Pentium 3/AMD Athlon XP (2001), you can run with SSE.
If your processor is (or is newer than) an original Intel Pentium 4/AMD Athlon 64 (2004), you can run SSE2.

Sparky_hi_fs2.vp is installed when you select the option to "Install Hi-Res Graphic Interface Artwork". And the only file download install we can officially support is through Good Old Games which will install a clean and usable copy for $6 USD or so.

You pirated the game and we do not really support pirated copies. Please buy a copy off GoodOldGames for $6.

This is my Specs of my graphics card:

Name: RADEON X850 Series
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip Type: ATI Radeon Graphics Processor (0x5D52
DAC Type: Internal DAC(400MHz)

What SSE build should I choose?

Processor (CPU) != (does not equal) Graphics Card (GPU).

Yes, I got this game pirated... My dad usually doesn't buy games online, because he barley gets any money on his Master Card.

Does GOG support PayPal though?

Though, I can live without Sparky_Hi_Fs2.VP, but I can't experience HD graphics though... :( I guess I am gonna have to talk to my dad about it...

What does this mean? Am I missing something?

He's telling you that your graphics card specs are irrelevant, only your CPU. But rest assured, unless your computer is genuinely ancient, just use an SSE2 build.

I'll try to get future SCP releases to use clearer nomenclature to remove this unnecessary jargon.

Yes (http://www.gog.com/support/website_help/payments_pricing_promos).

The price is now $10, unfortunately. Interplay renegotiated with GOG at some point over the prices for its games. Still pretty cheap, though.
