Funny how whenever one company (nVidia) produces something people hop up and down about how the specs will be out of date in 6 months, yet here you are doing the same ;)
Edit: And would you look at the price... the mid range one is almost 500 pounds!

well, i dont get to do it very often
and these cards do have a truly different architecture.
and the nvidia/PNY card of the same performance costs £800, so there :P
-
Don't get me wrong - I'm happy to see yet another advance in the world of graphics, I just think sometimes people miss the point that it doesn't matter who makes the card. It's what the cards like that matters - this can be said about so many things.
And this card is indeed a good looking piece of kit, but it won't necessarily be better purely because it comes from a different company (in the same way that something from the same company may be as good/bad as the last thing).
I just like to treat everything as "new", that way you can be objective and make the best choice possible.
Anyways, yes - good looking card!

Well, 3Dlabs as a company have had a rough time but their products have always been great, as far as i'm aware.
Price/Performance has been lacking in recent years, but as professional cards compared to the comparitive trash Nvidia brought out to the market (there is a reason I hate them), they had the edge on quality.
I found it next to intolerable to see an obviously better product being pushed to the side simply because of low prices and more FPS.
with any luck 3Dlabs can scale this chips' clockspeed up nicely to compete with any competitors products, although i'd like to see Matrox do well too.
As i explained to a post by Blitz_Lightning - a designer cannot afford to not whether know the work being done is accurate or not. It has to be accurate, the extra cash is worth it in the end.
If everyone, not just one chip design company, had the same standards of quality the world would probably be a much better place.

Must have one !! drool..
-
Too pricey i like my Geforce 3 Ti200, does everything i did it to. Price is everything.

I am after quality, not that much after the speed of the card..
And the price doesn't mean a **** to me;)
-
I dont have an infinate supply of it.

The Wildcat VP is aimed towards a professional working in CAD/CAM and Digital Content Creation - the drivers and features of the board are such that is supports things like huge texture sizes, proper Zbuffering and wireframe Anti Aliasing.
The games boards don't need these features.
Creative will be releasing a games board based on this chip, which should cost about the same or less than the Matrox Parhelia (which is also currently about £350 for 128mb DDR model)
These are pro cards and are competitive with Nvidia Quadros and the ATI FireGL line, as well as high end SGI systems.
Price means dick in this arena when you consider the graphics card cost maybe £2k but a good engineer or animator costs you £200k and you'll be wasting your time if they can't do their job because of crap hardware.

wow... it has a fancy sticker around the fan... im glad thats there... Because you know howmuch you look into your case (unless you have an eye of the storm case)
-
Actually I don't care about image quality much and would readily sacrifice that for speed. :p :D (I am a gamer rather than a modeler/animator)

I am more of a animator/renderer then a game, i need quality boards not a board that gives me 5000 fps and **** image quality;)

My case is always open on both sides...sounds like a jet engine:) it has 4 fans:)
HDD cooler
GPU cooler
CPU: cooler
Chipset:cooler
Don't know the specifications out of my head but they cool like hell.
CPU stable at 20Celcius...
hard to sleep when the thing stands 2 meters from my bed.
-
20 Celsius? Woah, that's some formidable cooling. :)

I like good cooling:)
I am proberly going for a watter cooled case.

How inane and predictable, in typical free loader fashion the internet denzines flock to support the underdog, simply because they are the underdog.
:D :p

I have 12 fans but everything is heavily overclocked, so the processor temperature is around 55ºC and the motherboard at 45ºC. As you can imagine, this thing is extremely loud. :D (sounds just like the ventilation units inside an airplane IMO)

That is sadly somewhat true. :p :D

Apart from the fact nvidia make genuinely crap products and 3Dlabs don't.

Nah, that's too boring. :D

Anyhow, back to talking about graphics cards.

Go on , then ;7

Looks nice, but it's much more than i will ever need as i am not graphically inclined. I only need a decent vid card for games.
And considering that all the cooling fans in my comp decided to die a few days ago, i will be needing a new vid card, as my trusty GF2 GTS cooling fan died, and overheats too quickly without it...
-
Gee, I was panning of getting a GeForce4!
Now I don't know what to think!
-
Well, gl and gw 3dlabs :D
