Man, J. J. Abrams is fast becoming my favorite man in Hollywood with the amount of **** he's taking under his wing. Newell and Abrams are already past the point of just speaking in hypotheticals, confirming the prospect of a Half-Life or Portal movie in the not-too-near future.

This is so, so far from confirmed. Don't get excited until it's in preproduction. Most movies that get to the stage these movies are at right now never make it to the screen.

I feel like a good place in the lore for a Half-Life film might be the Seven Hour War.
-
EDIT: **** it, im just going to wait until midterms are 100% out of my life before I post on hlp again because my post quality degrades so, so badly during these times
uni does terrible things to me sometimes

School kills all our souls.

So it's definitely, 100% confirmed that they might make a Portal movie. Or a Half Life one. Yea. Definitely. That one :P
-
Valve-Life Fortress 4 Dead.
I can't see a portal film being much good. I'd watch a Half-Life one, but it shouldn't try to get too deep. I feel it'd lose some atmosphere if Freeman was actually talking. If it was all POV observational then they might as well have made it a game....
-
It would be fun to watch William B. Davis portrayal of the G Man.
Ah.

It probably wouldn't involve Freeman. I think it would probably cover a portion of the Black Mesa incident, the Seven Hour War, or the rebellion. They could tell an interesting story focusing on several individuals that way, and maybe have cameos by the G Man or Freeman.
-
It would be basically Cloverfield 2 with some minor upgrades (G-Man).
-
Please no....... jesus, allah, budda, shiva, gaia, satan whoever the hell is listening stop this travesty please.
-
If they got Bob Hoskins and Duane Johnson to co-star, Hoskins as a HeadCrab, Duane as Gordy and Kevin Spacey as G-Man....
I'd watch.
-
First they came for Wing commander and I said nothing...
Then they came for Doom and still I said nothing...
Then they came for Silent Hill and again I said nothing...
Resident Evil was crap by that point anyway...
But now they come for Half-life and I say go an ***K yourself Abrams!
-
I think Gray here has little faith in Abrams
-
I agree with what he (Gray) said.

I agree with what he (Gray) said.
That's curious, because all of the stuff he cited had no horsepower behind it at all.

You mean aside from the fact that no-one has ever made a decent film out of a game?
-
You mean aside from the fact that no-one has ever made a decent film out of a game?
No director has been good enough
JJ Abrams might just be so
-
I bought the Wing Commander movie soundtrack
Because Saffron Burrows melts my heart ;7
Let me think of some Video game movies in recalled memory order of release.
Mario - not great
Streetfighter - Aside from Kylie, not great
Mortal Kombat - not awful
Wing commander - I liked it, but as you can see from my user name, i'm a MASSIVE wing commander Fanboy.
Doom, ummm.......................
The film of superman the game
-
Then they came for Doom and still I said nothing...
Then they came for Alone in the Dark and I told them they could take it as long as they never brought it back. :p
-
You know i actually liked that one and Silent HIll.....

The horror... :shaking:

With the number of short films out there I wouldn't be surprised if it was Portal but nothing looks definite.
-

Clearly you didn't watch the Mortal Kombat movies, which were deeply amusing.
-
Shut up, I went to see the first one to the theaters and I was thrilled by it.
Gods, the things we appreciate when we are so young.
-
Oh wait! The Prince of Persia movie was decent enough!

noooo
-
The first Tomb Raider was fairly decent, though maybe that was because I just spent most of it staring at Angelina Jolie.
-
Anyone know that there was a Dragon Age movie? Because apparently there was a Dragon Age movie...

Yeah, I knew there was a Dungeon Siege movie. I heard it was terrible, but never got a chance to see it myself.
Director: Uwe Boll
That just says it all. Although... Leelee Sobieski...

IT SCARES ME.

To be honest, I still like the Mortal Kombat movies as I liked them then. They're big, dumb, and loud, but they've got heart and some decent fight work, and they tell a simple, straightforward story with competence. They're not Enter The Dragon or The Raid, but they're imminently watchable without calling in the Bad Movie Night crew to help me get through them.
-
Mortal Kombat web series didn't suck either.
I'm... Somewhat curious about when JJ Abrams became geekdoms only acceptable filmmaker. First Star Trek... Fine. Then Star Wars... bkt dodgy to have the two biggest Sci fi universes in history being made by one guy, but everyone seemed fine with it, somehow. Now he gets arguably the biggest, most popular game franchise since Doom to play with as well? How is he going to be able to do justice to three separate Sci fi universes - each beloved by their own fans? Don't we deserve more than one voice, one creative vision in modern Sci fi? Eh, I'm sure it'll be... Passable. Acceptable. But I can't see it being great.
Oh, and let me put in a prediction right here. First movie will be Half Life, it will be about the Black Mesa event and it will be centred around Gordon Freeman. There's almost no other possibility in the studio system. Seriously, don't expect anything else until they make sure that their most popular and recognizable property sells first.

Someone gave me the DVD, and I put it on one afternoon while I was doing housework.
****ING. TERRIBLE. It was 30 minutes of plot expanded to a god-knows-how-long snoozefest of bad writing, bad acting, and terrible directing. It was only when I saw the final credits out of my curiosity to see who was responsible for that trainwreck that I realized I had inadvertently watched an Uwe flick. NEVER. AGAIN.
I felt supremely sorry for some of the well-known actors who obviously agreed to do the film with no concept of how awful it was going to be.

J.J. Adams is going to make a Pokemon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_game_franchises) movie? :p

I've never liked Jar Jar Abrams' work. I don't know what people see in him.
-
This is starting to remind me about the Breaking Bad promotionals when people thought Bryan Cranston could perfectly fit as an older Gordon Freeman.
The thing is, anyone know any good bearded science-y guys that are around 27?

I've never liked Jar Jar Abrams' work. I don't know what people see in him.
He did one thing I loved, and that was the tv-show Fringe. As for his movies, I certainly don't see him as God's gift to sci-fi geeks. Yea his movies aren't George Lucas level of terrible, but they're not brilliant either. Star Trek can be passable as a completely brainless sunday after-lunch flick when your system is far too busy digesting the copious amounts of food recently ingested to worry about horrible plot holes, overdone CGI with lens flares and shaky cam that make it impossible to figure out what's going on during the action scenes :)
That all being said, I guess it's fortunate I haven't cared for the Star Wars franchise for years now, so I really won't be upset if his new Star Wars ends up bad. Hell I doubt I'll even want to go watch the thing, I guess I've seen one too many lightsaber fights followed by 5 cent morality lessons with the occasional inter-action "witty" remark. Star Wars bore me. Yes, even the originals, though they're a lot better than the prequels. If he makes a Portal movie, though.. I just might go see that. I dearly loved both games, and you can never have enough GLaDOS.

You beat me to it. Fringe was one of the better sci-fi shows on television in the last 5 years and I watched every episode. Even my wife got into it, and she is not a fan of sci-fi normally.

JJ Abrams is very competent, and I don't agree at all with the criticism he is getting from some posters here. He revived Star Trek when no one thought it was possible anymore, and turned it into a very watchable popcorn Star Wars-like movie. Which is, if you think 1 second about it, the main reason why he is getting hired to do the same with Star Wars.
I wouldn't worry about Half Life too much. There's at least 5 years before we shall see a trailer about anything related to it.

It's on Netflix! So stoked about that

Shame it isn't available for streaming.

It is for me...

Not for me.... I wonder if it's regional.
