In case anyone missed it:
System Shock 2 (http://www.gog.com/gamecard/system_shock_2)
Updated for modern systems and includes 3-person co-op
-
It's about ****ing time.
Been wanting to take another swing at this for about seven years.

Thanks for the info, never actually played it but always wanted to try it. Just never got it's turn. Still, 10$ is a bit on the high side for a game that's 13 years old, so being the cheap bugger that I am, I wishlisted it until they drop it :)

If you're worried that its old, there mods that enhance the graphics and various things just like FSO.

It really isn't, in this case - SS2 is a legend for a reason.

Oh, I believe you. I'm also being cheap for a reason. I'll get it one of these days, there's no hurry :)

I'm not. In fact I'll probably play it in it's original look, at least for the first time. Thanks for the info, though.

I actually worked on one of the biggest mods for SS 2.
That game is a Legend.

Holy ****. I never thought GOG would be able to pull that off. Love the current frontpage.
After reading these posts (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=78709.msg1556759#msg1556759), I got an SS2 CD in Nov. 2011 on eBay for $40. Easily among the best games I have ever played.
I was just playing it the other night to test out a monitor and quit after a few minutes. I'd forgotten how scary SS2 is. :shaking:
I wonder how much this'll push down the market price on eBay. Their only customers now are the people who want physical copies for whatever reason.
EDIT: I might get a copy from GOG when it's on sale so I can get all the goodies.
-
I still have the original game disc, and I still reinstall it every so often to play.
SS2 is among the best games ever made. Even without the updated graphics mods, everyone owes it to themselves to play this. It is without a doubt the best horror game ever made for the PC.
Also, it is hard as hell. Do not think you can start on the highest difficulty level, you will get your ass kicked. Also, Psy-Ops is not for the faint of heart.

Pistol Marine for life!

Pistol Marine for life!
I preferred Psy-Ops, and I recall maxing both Pistols and Energy Weapons.
Those psionic upgrades were lifesavers, but the early game is MUCH more difficult than it is for Marines. Impossible IS damn near impossible.
For those who haven't played it, unlike most current FPS-RPG hybrids, you can't actually use certain weapons or abilities without basic training, which consumes upgrade modules... meaning you have to really think about what upgrades you need (I always went basic weapons -> hacking -> psionics -> advanced weapons). Defense, resource collection, abilities, offensive carnage, in other words.

alright so where is system shock 1?

alright so where is system shock 1?
So broken as to be unplayable on any modern system. I tried a few years ago. Not worth it. Play SS2, it gives you all the background you need.

Still in legal limbo, it seems. Looks like GOG and Night Dive managed to untangle the situation in a way that allowed them to sell System Shock 2, but not the first one, for now.

Everything worked except the map (which crashes the game) and the save system (which doesn't save) when I tried it a year or so ago. Would be nice to get a working version.
