Title: Max 2013 Help? - DAE Export Related
Post by: JGZinv on March 03, 2013, 07:01:27 pm
Still ever so slowly trying to work on our treasure trove of Tachyon models, I ended up
moving to Max 2013 to fix some errors.

I've done all my rigging and setup, exported via the Autodesk DAE, and while pretty much everything
else is exporting correctly, I'm getting a resulting import into PCS2 with no texture what so ever.

Reset xform, etc etc... using the last edition of pcs2 I could find April 1, 2012.
Not getting any errors pertaining to textures.

Anyone with Max 2013 able to take a look?  I'm starting to make a dent in my desk from all the head banging.

Don't use Autodesk DAE.  You'll need to use the OpenCollada exporter - https://github.com/KhronosGroup/OpenCOLLADA/wiki/OpenCOLLADA-Tools.

Unfortunately, the version that is current doesn't support Max 2013, so you'll need to complete the process with a copy of max 2012 or lower (in 2013, save as a 2012 scene, open in 2012, and use the exporter there).

It's quite an annoying process.

Well, I was hoping the autodesk plugin had advanced...

Have you tried building the plugin for 2013 or using the 2012 on the opencollada side to see if it'd work on 2013?

I have to wonder how much longer DAE support is going to do us any good if the plugin is going to fall behind. Granted Max
isn't the only thing out there, but it's still a pretty good chunk of the overall pie.

Looks like the plugin just got updated to work with Maya and Max 2013.

About time...

(aand it looks like max 2014 is scheduled to be released in April).

OpenCollada:  never >1 year out of date.

I also don't get the point of chugging out a new version of max every year that s basically identical...

Actually a couple years ago they made some serious performance improvements that brought the real time renderer to usable at near max quality settings.  That's the only enhancement I've heard about in three years though.

And 2013 came with the quick view layouts and etc.  I really don't understand why plugins need to be recompiled every version though.  Sigh..

Lots of changes to UVW unwrap in 2013 from 2011. Not really super necesary but some of the options save time
