Title: ArmA 3 Alpha
Post by: Dragon on March 05, 2013, 07:19:40 am
For your information, the Alpha version for ArmA 3 just released.

The site is currently Diaspora'd, but it'll be back. Eventually. Needless to say, I've been waiting for this.
For the uniformed, ArmA 3 is the next installment of perhaps the most hardcore military simulator out there, even more realistic than old Rainbow Six. A niche series, but I love it.

46 minutes later, i think I've finally gotten through BIS hell and purchased the Supporter Edition.

It is lagging so bad serverside it's not funny. But hey, they managed to keep it barely operational. I wonder what kind of hit numbers they are receiving. Especially in the first 10 minutes.

I think I'll be getting the regular edition, as much as I'd love to buy the supporter edition, it costs a fortune in Polish currency and I can't afford it at the time (and my father won't agree to buy it for me, of course...).  :(
Polski Zloty sucks.
Also, for anyone interested, regular and deluxe editions can be bought directly through Steam. It's somewhat faster than using the BI store. http://store.steampowered.com/app/107410/

I will definately agree that the Steam Store is faster, much faster.

But I wanted my Supporter Edition (destroying my bank account in the process), and I don't like to buy things off steam. I prefer disks or direct to the company. Which is what buying from their store is giving me.

But the release handling of ArmA 3 Alpha has been fairly horrible. Their servers havent coped well., and still arent now, a good.. two hours later.

They'd better upgrade in time for the full release, or they're in for Diaspora'ing of epic proportions. I also would have preferred disks over Steam for this, but we've had no choice. Well, starting the Alpha now. I hope my computer doesn't explode. :)
