Title: What websites you follow?
Post by: Fury on March 16, 2013, 10:09:10 am
What websites do you follow regularly? Share with others, maybe we can pick up new interesting websites to follow.

Mine are as follows:

Some of those are obviously finnish sites.

Any method of following is fine, such as twitter, facebook, rss/atom feeds, etc and old-fashioned direct visiting.

A lot of webcomics, like Dilbert, Garfield, US Acres and Everyday Heroes. Also plenty of military ones, for example Terminal Lance, Broadside (along with Greenside), American Airman and Air Force Blues. A bunch of forums (HLP, Bohemia Interactive, KSP, UFO:AI, Terminal Lance forums), TV Tropes (I know, I know) and FSMods.

I **** around lots on Tumblr and HLP. I 'follow' ModDB, but I despise most of the modding community there, as it appears a lot of people on ModDB are prone to unnecessary drama and whining, so I only really go there for mods + images of stuff. I browse Imgur every now and then, but I don't really follow it. I also watch lot's of videos, so Youtube is a place I commonly visit.

I've stopped buying Lego because it's still expensive to buy lots of it, but I've never forgotten it, so I visit MOCpages as well, and occasionally check out Flickr. For the same reasons, I browse WH40K stuff there as well.

Also, since I'm apparently a 'fan' of bad fanfiction and laugh at stupid/badly-written fanfiction, I tend to go to Fanfiction.net for laughs. And on the plus side, an actually decent/pretty good fanfic will show up!  :nervous:

There's some other places I used to frequent pretty often, but most of them have dissolved into gigantic ****storms, so I don't really go to them anymore.  :nono:

YouTube for Let's Plays and videos of liberal and conservative pundits with ridiculous stances.

at home, not much.  a few forums and facebook.  occasionally go on a youtube journey, usually started by a link on a forum.  i don't subscribe to anyone, ever.  the lone exceptions are 3 people who are fans of a couple of the same bands as me and have recorded concerts or put up rare live videos.  none of them have put anything up in years though, and one of them in fact passed away.

back when i was on 2nd or 3rd shift though, explosm, xkcd, and failblog were my go-to sites for time killing.  failblog in particular killed the most time.  not because of content, but because of the slow internet speed and inability to use adblock.

At this point I have no clue as to how you people stay informed what is happening in the world. Most of you don't seem to follow any particular news sites of any genre.

Follow? I don't really follow any sites.

Unless you count webcomics, of which there are many.
I also read cracked.com (http://cracked.com), and watch their videos.
And Youtube, where I have a number of subscriptions, though I don't really watch all of their things. Mostly gaming and science-y channels like Vsauce, MinutePhysics, CGPGrey, TotalHalibut, Nerd3, and stuff.
I get almost all of my news here in GenDisc, from Yahoo!, or Twitter.

the internet isn't the only source of news.  but it IS the largest source of news i don't give a flying **** about, so therefore i avoid it.

well, i take that back.  one of my coworkers is the biggest source of news i don't give a flying **** about.  but i can't turn him off.

Shockingly enough, there are still these things called "television" and "newspapers" in the year 2013. :p Even with those aside, though, I find that having my homepage still set to the old Comcast landing page (even though we haven't used them for years) gives me enough of the top AP stories to generally know what's going on.

For news the best thing is twitter. When **** happens, by far the most reliable (and fastest) network

Facebook anyone? I follow the official pages of a great many newspapers and news programmes and I monitor news on various scales, from local to global. I find it very effective.

FB and twitter feeds for local Radio based news, Yahoo news and BBC news covers most of my needs, though BBC TV news avoids most of the OMG... crap that internet news feeds tend to suffer from.  Also the Metro (free paper distributed on public transport in the UK) sometimes picks up on interesting stories that sometimes get missed by the mainstream

You got to love some of the spelling mistakes in the Metro, but still it is a real decent source for unbiased news

Many IM services or email blanket sites have newsfeed options, but you can hardly say those are "followed"; they're incidentals but you see them several times a day and they get the job done well enough.

I regularly visit here, the World of Warships forum (yeah a game that's not out yet), sectorgame although not as regularly, and harass people who don't understand writing on several small forums whose names would mean little to you.

Oh and lurking about /tg/.

I don't do web comics. Oh, I have nothing against them, I am just not aware of them. I'm surprised how many do follow them and how many sites there are. I may have to investigate some sometime. Or just google "web comics" and see what comes out. The only one I've ever followed would be Totally Flaked. When I stumbled over that I went through them all in a matter of days.

I follow about a dozen webcomics, my current favorites being Questionnable Content, Gunnerkrigg Court and Girl Genius. Not having an Internet connection at home has somewhat prevented me from archive binging new one lately.
HLP of course. I also pop on the WCS forum once or twice a day.
Every once in a while I take a walk on TVtropes, though that's slowed down considerably over the past year.
I still tend to visit 4chan when I get bored.
I sometimes watch animes on crunchyroll.
I don't follow that many news sites anymore, I rely friends, coworkers, HLP or Facebook or the occasional abandonned newspaper to know when stuff happens around the world.
I'm also kinda out of the loop regarding videogaming websites, although I've been visiting IGN on a few occasions lately.
I also used to hang out on acidcow when I could access the Internet at home.
