Title: HTL Hermes
Post by: mjn.mixael on April 11, 2013, 05:14:59 pm
Finally got around to mapping and texturing this one. Model is by Hades.

Hermes (View in 3D (http://p3d.in/rha3S))
(http://p3d.in/model_data/snapshot/rha3S) (http://p3d.in/rha3S)

P3D is showing the normals and shine somewhat inaccurately, but in FSO it looks great. I still need to do LODs and debris.

I was going to say that I thought we already had one of these...and obviously we did!  And now it's painted!

(The P3D derpiness makes it look like someone chucked a rock through the windshield. :p)

I'm out of town all weekend. I wanted to post the p3d... But in-game screens will have to wait until Monday.

Looking really awesome. But I think there is no model which breaks comparsion more than the hermes. Compared to normal people (in the game) the doors and windows would be ridiculously oversized wouldn't they?

The door is a bit large in the retail texture (around 2x3 meters, same as it is here), but that's not entirely unreasonable for an external door on an escape pod.

Hoo boy. Now come putting them in Silent Threat Reborn, I have to frustratingly watch cooler looking escape pods get blown up by Shivans or rogue Terrans.

Spoiler:
Or in earlier versions of War in Heaven if I'm not wrong, that plot-critical person getting blown up by stealthed Maxim fighters.

Besides that point, that pod looks fantastic.

Yeah, I noticed that "bump."

Looks great!

Planning to bake an AO to diffuse? Or not really worth it for the cracks around the engine and the groove all around the body?

Dayum.

Also, now I think I understand why the Hermes is so slow.  Looks like it's using an ion engine back there.

When I put up the p3d via remote connect through my tablet.. I remember thinking. 'There's no AO bake. Kolgena's gonna ask about it... awesome.'

At least you have a 'thing' on HLP, right? You're 'AO bake' guy!

Looks good c: Perhaps the only issue with it is the yellow paint strip on it is too faded but that is a very minor thing. Overall I think it's a well done job.

Looks good enough to accidentally ram to death.

That non-centered yellow line is killing me with OCD, arrrgh. :banghead: Other than that, fantastic work on the escape brick.
