Microsoft apparently has a problem at their hands; with dismal sales of Windows 8, they have started a rather rapid redevelopment of Windows Blue (=8.1). So far what I have seen Windows 8 has fared worse than Vista, so there is sort of incentive towards that.
Two of the most frequently required modifications are return of Start button, and boot directly to the Desktop mode. Never underestimate the resistance towards change from your major customers.

Although, I'm not sure how many companies and customers Microsoft already alienated with this, hardware vendors did not take Surface lightly either. It's probably gonna be Linux for me after Windows 7 isn't supported anymore.

I saw this coming from the start. I actually expected it as an update to just show up one day, but I guess this works too. They're not going to charge extra for Blue or whatever, are they?

Glad to see Microsoft has apparently taken the hint... the anvil-sized hint.

Old news, or should I say rumors. Yes, such registry entries and **** has been spotted in the more recent 8.1 builds but recent discoveries hint towards them designed for Kiosk mode. If true, it means that it still won't quite be what people want. And one should note that these are developer builds and reported "features" are not functional. At this point there is absolutely no guarantee they will make it to the final build, in Kiosk mode or otherwise.

Yeaaaah, I'll stick to W7. Although creatively I'm really curmudgeoning here. If there's anything I hate more is having an OS (or anything really) designed by focus groups or polls. I really hope MSFT doesn't go back to the 90s on that one.

My new Laptop has Windows 7.
Windows 7 is more user-friendly than Windows Vista.

you've bragged about your FSO being horribly out of date so what system are you running? :wtf:

i wouldn't call it bragging, merely stating a fact. ive upgraded fso since then to play some mods.
im using win7 ulti i think. the irony is i have most of the os disabled so it feels more like basic. im of the opinion that an os shouldn't be a software suite.
