For the first time so far, a scene in the show is way better than in the books (Astapor).

I was looking forward to how the Sack of Astapor was portrayed. I was not disappointed.
And Ramsay Bolton messing with Theon was entirely accurate. I am (not) looking forward to seeing more of him.
In other news, nekkid Ygritte and Sandor vs Dondarrian next episode.

A dragon is not a slave, indeed.
I want that music

I want this music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3b7fZIT0nk). Best ending credits of all time?

Tywin is one of my favorite characters. Charles Dance deserves an award.

Are they back to following the plot lines of the books yet, or does season 3 pull more of the season 2 bull**** and throw in changes for no apparent reasons other than to mess with the written story?
-
Is that really a thing that one should care about? No adaptation will ever be accurate; Personally, I'm just happy getting really good telly out of this.
I mean, just as the LOTR films were not direct translation of the books to make them work better as films, this isn't a direct translation of the books so the story works better in the TV show format.
(Disclaimer: I have never read the books, and do not intend to)

You've presumably read the books, and are therefore unable to evaluate changes made for TV from the perspective of someone who doesn't already understand the major plot points.

Just saw 3x05 - only thing I'll say is that I really like how bold they're being with the songs in this show... having The Bear and the Maiden Fair as the end credits song a few weeks ago, and then having Patchface's jingle this week... quite bold. :)

Indeed.
Therefore, I'm wondering if anyone else who has read the books can comment if they've quit diverging as significantly in season 3 as they did in season 2. I know Martin is a creative consultant for the show and he's helping streamline, but honestly the plots of the books have enough confusion written in without adding an alternate version in a TV show. It's annoying, because the show is quite good, but there were some conflicting point points emerging in season 2, to the point where I said screw it and stopped watching.

I would recommend Season 3 quite heartily - while I am happy to talk **** about everything wrong with both books and show, I think S3 has been really strong.

MP, they are still making some derivations from the books, the most noticeable so far are that Jamie and Brienne are captured by Dreadfort banner men rather than the Bloody Mummers, Ser Barristan entered Daenerys' service openly instead of utilizing an alias (and not accompanied by Strong Belwas), Sam has yet to earn his nickname before things went sour at Crasters' Keep and Theon's having some odd and confusing times at Dreadfort.
The changes are still developing, so I can't hazard a guess if they will play out as good or better than the books, that said it's been a strong season so far. Adventures in contracts and negotiations in Astapor being particularly well executed.

The only thing that I was severely disappointed in S3 was the opening, which didn't make any sense. The last time we saw Sam he was surrounded by a thousand wights and nowhere near where the ravens were so how the heck could it have been his job to send them? The only explanations which would make sense was if 1) he somehow climbed to the Fist (where the ravens would have been) before the battle or 2) the Night's Watch actually managed to bring the ravens down with them and then tasked him with sending them. Neither really makes any sense, or were even hinted at.
I was really looking towards to how the S2 finale would be resolved, but no. :blah:

I recommend writing off everything north of the Wall and everything involving Dany as **** that will never be handled well in books or TV. (astapor was cool tho)

I found this (http://kotaku.com/wow-romes-most-allegedly-debauched-ruler-looks-just-487852247) mildly amusing.
