Title: Hi. Can anyone recommend the best Mods to use w/ the original FS2 campaign?

Mainly looking for things that add to the game (better FX, graphics, textures, more ships, weapons, improved balance etc.).

Got this game a LONG time ago, but my PC didn't like it much.  Now I have a new one and am looking to finally play FS2.

I've heard there are several good mods that add to the experience of the SP game, but I've looked around, and there seems to be soooo many all over the place, it is difficult to tell if they even work w/ the SP game.

If anyone could point me out to the best ones, I'd be grateful.

It's really getting good, and just wait till next release ;).
Anyways, you can get the MOD, and make your own missions, but you could get an old-fashioned campaign veritech, which allows you to fly the VF-1A in the campaign. Of course, you could always do some file editing to get the new ones to work;)

Well that's great, the p!imping started without even greeting the guy properly.  And the robotech mod can't be used in the main campaign of FS2, which is what he was asking about.

There is one source code mod that improved the graphics (explosions and such), but other than the acceleration mod I don't know of any that'd work well without replacing key ships or whatnot required for the game to work.

But if you get the graphics mod then you'd have to go back and run fs2 normally to see the cutscenes.

Like I said: With some basic editing knowledge, you can put everything into the original campaign. Just need to rename some files ;).
ANYWAYS, I also said that there is an original campaign veritech available for download. It's old, but it's there.

So in other words, there  isn't really (besides this "Acceleration" mod).  

That's OK.  FS2 is still a pretty impressive looking/playing game.

Try the VolitionWatch archives.
BTW, it's not a TC, it's not even a MOD. It's a campaign that only has a couple MODs. A TC is something liiiiiiike: The robotech MOD, or or TAP (The Apocalypse project, it's hosted here on HLP)

Derelict and Warzone use the fewest MOD's and expand the original story.

Hmmm forgot to mention to you Icefire; the link for the download of derelict gives a 404.

Kellan said he'd have a look for a mirror for me but since he hasn't got back to me I presume that there isn't one. *shrugs*



BTW Decado, welcome to HLP :)

You could try out 'The Aeos Affair' which is also available from your friendly neighbourhood Volition watch, it got great reviews :)

Also hosted here is 'Technological superiority' a great campaign by the very talented Arnav and the freespace conversion project headed by GalacticEmperor which lets you play the missions from FS1 just in case you missed it. Keep an eye on the hosted forums too, there's lots of interesting stuff on the horizon :nod:

There are the registry tweaks, which can be found here (http://www.descent-freespace.com/ddn/kb/registry/). AFAIK they will work with FS2. :nod:

Exits are to the rear and there are now flamethrowers under the seats, older members also have their trusty 12 gauges.

You can't really use mods with the main campaign unless you edit a bunch of files.  After completeing the main campaign you should try the following campaigns

Warzone
Derelict
Aeos Affair
Technological Superiority
The Babylon Project

Inferno, Blackwater Operations and Machina Terra will come out real soon and they will all be excellent campaigns (and big)

well, i havn't tried it yet-am waiting for another sc update which should include it anyways. i think it soups up the explosion graphics ie adds glow to em, but aren't sure. my fs is heavily modded (takes like 20 seconds to load a mission) so i don't really want to juggle more fs2.exe's just yet. i already got both of DTP's versions (very cool :) )
i personally don't like the acelleration mod. why not just use time compression?

Any re-skin should work fine. There are tons. The Six gun herc mod should also work fine.

The 6-gun herc works fine.  However it hase more than 6 primary firing points, it has 12!

It made it very interesting to play with I'll tell you.  Especially when I cranked up it's top cruising speed to 120 and made the afterburn 200.

The mission "but hate the traitor" is a B!TCH to try and chase down and dodge all those ai's.  It's a damn good thing that snipes has a sexp to make him invulnerable or we'd have both been dead.

dtp's version fixes some annoying bugs, increases a heap of limits and is plain cool :) got it from somewhere i can't remember. ask someone else about that. and if i listed all the mods i have, it would take about a page. just say every single mod i have been able to download (bobbou, found your thera squid juggernought when reading the fsmm2 tute. :) it looks heaps cool-err, how are the engine parts ment to rotate though? couldn't figure that out, or why fs crashed when it was destroyed [probably didn't wanna lose such a cool ship :D ]):yes:

It's called "Max Freespace 2"

The biggest advantages I have seen with it is that you can add as much new stuff to the game as you like (as many weapon, ship, other table mods) without causing any problems on a half decent system.  Right now I have all of the ship mods available to the public as well as a few from miscelaneous mods all running at the same time.  And you should see the massive battles you can have with that version.  I think I have played one with over 40 capital ships all firing and moving about.  And you can still play the original campaign without having to delete or rename the ships.tbl file.

StratComm, what's the size of 'every mod available to the public'? Whenever I try to use the DTP FS2 it exits as soon as I try to load a mission. Would it be possible to dump the mods and tables into a big file and upload them?

VELOCITY MOD!! :mad: Accelaration is waaaaaaaay to fast V mod just right. Its on the HLP downloads page.
