Title: Problem with sound, registry information needed
Post by: Astromancer on May 18, 2013, 12:18:35 pm
Hi
I have problem with sound. I can't choose in launcher working configuration.
I had similiar problem with Wing Commander Saga.
It could be fixed before patch this way:

Here is a temporary work around for all of you, who have sound issues. It appears as if the launcher does not save sound config correctly on a fraction of systems. While we are working on an update, please give this "hack" a try:

        I solved this problem! Yeessss!!!
        Tip:
When you write to this line
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Volition \ WingCommanderSaga

        "Generic Software"

DO NOT LAUNCH GAME FROM LAUNCHER (BECAUSE LAUNCHER TURN OFF you changes), ONLY FROM wcsaga_sse2.exe and ALL BE alright!

        I have sound now!

but I cannot find similar registry information for Diaspora.
Does anyone know where i can find similiar sound config?

When you open the Diaspora launcher and go to its Basic Settings tab, what appears in the box labeled "Playback device:" in the section labeled "Audio"? Are there any options available in that box?

Also, do you have the Diaspora 1.0.4 patch (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=82829.0)?

I know, and I have nawest patch.
Playback device in launcher doesn'd work as intendend, so i need Generic Device enter manualy to work (popably very rare bug, similiar to this in older version of WCSaga), all i need is info where is config stored, because i cannot find it in registry.

Try HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Volition\Freespace2

Unlike WCS, Diaspora shares its settings with any install of other FS2_Open games so this might fix the issue for any other TCs (Like The Babylon Project, etc) you might try.

I was shure it did, but didn't.
I am stiupid. I had answer in front of me :banghead:
Diaspora launcher did not show polish font so impossible was chose proper device.
SPDIF in not working dont know why.
If i chose audio by FSO launcher and run diaspora wihthout diaspora's launcher it's working.

I know we have a couple of the launcher coders on the team. Hopefully they'll be able to fix that issue for future releases.

Funnily enough, I don't remember having that issue when I installed Diaspora in Chinese. Maybe I just didn't notice it, since I mainly used that PC for a standalone server.

Strange. The launcher builds are Unicode builds (UTF-8 IIRC but not sure offhand) and can handle non-ASCII characters.

Especially strange in that AFAIK no one else has reported this issue in the 8 months since the R1 release.

A quick attempt to reproduce this on OS X by manually adding a Polish playback device entry didn't work. The text still displays. So this'll require some work.

First guess is that wxL is not correctly processing the playback device info retrieved from OpenAL. [EDIT: such as if the info is in a non-Unicode encoding]

Since we don't have a Polish computer setup and probably can't reproduce this on our own, it'd be very helpful if Astromancer were willing to work with us one-on-one.

Great, thanks for offering to help! We've started researching this issue but will need more time. We'll either PM you or post here after we have more information.

Since our upcoming release is already complete, this will get fixed for the release after that.
