Title: Problems with German fonts again
Post by: Stormcrow on May 22, 2013, 05:08:15 pm
Hello everybody,

I've reinstalled FSO after some time and found that for some reason, all briefings and parts of the in-game text are in German. While I am German and thus have no problem with understanding the briefings, it would be nice to have my FSO in a single language, especially since the font files produce gibberish when they are trying to display umlauts.
I also have the problem with not having icons to show which primary or secondary weapon is selected, which is a bigger problem.
I checked and both the launcher and FS2.exe are set for "English (USA)", not German.

It appears that I am not the first player to encounter this problem, but all hotfix files linked to in older threads about this issue have been deleted. If someone could help me with this and possibly re-upload the files, you would make me a very happy FSOer ;).

I take it that you prefer to play in English. Is this correct?

If so, and you're using Windows, then follow these instructions (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/fs2-technical.html#ChangeLang) under "How do I change the language settings for FS2 - The retail launcher won't let me?" (If you're using 64-bit Windows, you may need to go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Classes -> VirtualStore -> MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Wow6432Node -> Volition -> Freespace2 in step 3.)

Absolutely. It works much better with both written and spoken text in English - not to mention the issue with the primary/secondary markers.

Thank you, I wasn't able to find the Volition entry via Regedit before (I wasn't looking in the VirtualStore folder).
There was no language entry, but I created a new key, named it "language" and it's working fine now. Thanks again! :)
