I don't know what Curiosity is/was. It sounds a bit like making people sperm and the one lucky person got into the egg.
But the prize would have appealed very, very much to me. How are you supposed to share such a prize? I would have tried to claim it for myself and ascend to godhood. I say try because I don't know what exactly it entails.
You seem to disapprove BloodEagle, but I think it's brilliant.

i have NO idea what is going on here.

I googled this thing:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curiosity_%E2%80%93_What's_Inside_the_Cube%3F
That's why I said about sharing the prize:
"The winner was identified as Edinburgh resident Bryan Henderson, who was given the option to either keep the contents of the cube to himself or share it with the public."
The prize seems to be they're creating a game:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godus
And the players are players, but the prize winner gets to be the God of the game. And cream off some of the profits.

I disapprove because this is Molyneux once again proving how much of an asshole he is.

Well I don't know anything about that. Even if you want no part of the God thing, you get money. It's a worthy prize.
-
Giving someone a share of the profits and offering them a huge hand in the direction of the game is him being an asshole?

he's not an asshole, he just has this totally naive self-image of himself as a groundbreaking innovator

after reading that i'm still not sure i get it. so this thing was a giant cube in an iphone app? and you tapped the screen and little bits fell off? all the while advertising the greatness of..... something? and they got three MILLION people to do this? and the winner was simply the person who clicked the last layer off?
wut?
-
Yes, exactly. As moneymaking schemes go, it was certainly one of the more successful ones (Seriously, a few weeks ago, they had a deal where you could pay them to add layers to the cube!). They sold more efficient tools for anything ranging from 59 cents to 50000 USD (yes, really).
Lorric: Molyneux is, in game development circles, generally thought of as a pretentious prick, whose latest efforts generally fell far short of the promises he made during the production phase. Just compare what he promised to deliver for the first Fable with what he actually delivered.
-
Molyneux's reputation aside, this was definitely a unique concept. And I sure as hell wouldn't turn down what's essentially a free cut of a game's profits.
-
Oh, sure, that price is pretty sweet (and definitely qualifies as lifechanging).
But I have to wonder if giving someone who is probably not a game design pro a big hand in the design of a game a good idea.
-
Sounds like pretty ill-defined role - probably deliberately. They can get some ideas from him and implement the best/least disruptive ones depending on how good they are (or aren't). I very much doubt they'd release creative control in any significant way if it was going to create an indisputably worse game.

Hahaha.
I don't agree with the sentiment Trashman but that's a funny vid none the less.
Thanks
