Hi everyone, long time since I've been here.

I was just passing through, and I thought that I might be able to contribute something to the community.

I made a model for a Luxology contest, it's available free on their site and I'd love it if anyone would want to put it into the game. I think it looks kind of cool. :D Feel free to add turrets or any craziness like that, I could see it being a warship too lol.

Here is the link to the Luxology model repository, if you need .DAE or something send me a PM or email (invertedvantage at gmail) and I'll send it your way.

It comes with normal, spec, glow, and diffuse maps.

There's also a few UV-less models on there that are mine, feel free to use them if you want to do a texture or something.

Ready to go with existing diffuse, normal, shine and glow maps? And all it'll take is a bit of debrisification/turreting? Yep, that'll get converted very quickly I suspect. :D

[EDIT]Can't view at work - is this in a proprietary format? If so, a 3ds, DAE or obj would be really useful for conversion purposes.

I'm unable to download from Luxology as I don't own Modo (and I suspect the majority of people in HLP will have similar difficulty). Is there another place where we can download it?

Yeah, bugmenot accounts are also no good.

Incidentally, that's more than a little bit of a dick move on Luxology's part. They probably justify it as some kind of "Anti Piracy Measure" or "Why should we pay for bandwidth for non customers" or something, which would be arguable positions, I suppose - but it feels a lot like they're basically saying that there's no way any of their customers might ever want to interact with the 3d community beyond their own customer base. Unless, that is, they want to import stuff made in other 3d packages from other websites that offer their stuff up freely for anybody to use, of course. Wankers. :doubt:

Converted. No LoDs, but I did add some turrets and debris. For added fun, I only more or less tested it. See if you can spot any bugs!

[EDIT]Clever texture people out there should retexture this so it has more windows (and maybe look a little bit more freespacey). It'd make a pretty awesome luxury liner.

Oh, awesome man, that looks great! :D

Feel free to edit the textures or the mesh to your heart's content, just make sure to credit me for the original model please. :)

You know UT - do you still have a layered version of the texture laying about? Might you be able to generate a version of the map without the "VGS 03" on the side? I could then re-apply it as a separate nameplate texture that could be manipulated much easier.

Here's the texture without the lettering;

Where'd you add the turrets by the way? :)

Have you not DLed and had a look? There're 4 single-part button turrets - One is just in front of the big upper-rear fin, two on the upper surfaces of the flat protrusions just behind the big square "ears" (roughly the centre of the model along the Z axis) and one about two thirds forward on the lower surface. So coverage is anisotropic, but duplicating turrets is easy enough if anyone wants a more even coverage.

I'll have another look at sorting the pof with a nameplate in the next day or two.

I don't actually have Freespace 2 installed :\ Life has been crazy these past few weeks so I haven't been able to even think about putting it back on my computer yet. But cool. :D
