So I just got an HTC One and I'm trying to set it up with Straight Talk, which is the carrier of my current phone. However, I'm not sure what to do during the initial setup. My carrier choices are:
AT&T
Consumer Cellular
TracFone
Voce Wireless
Ztar Mobile
I don't see Straight Talk (I didn't expect to) or T-Mobile, which is the towers it should be running on. What should I do guys?
I already tried Googling how to set up the HTC one for Straight Talk but I can only find information on APN settings.

Beats me. I plan on getting One this Thursday with a 2yr AT&T contract (only because the only cell tower within a 30 mile radius is 4G AT&T, and roaming with any other carrier would limit it to 2G).

It should be pretty simple. Unless it's brand-new, and this setup process is something that's required, just put your SIM card in and it should work immediately. Is there a way to skip that step?
Unless it's locked to a different carrier, in which case you'll need to unlock it.

Well I just got my number transferred from my old phone to my new phone, but the process could take up to 34 hours. I'm guessing selecting your carrier during the initial setup just sets up the data services.

Well... the phone is brand new, ordered from HTC. I ordered a "micro SIM card" from amazon for $80 and it turns out to be a regular SIM card that somebody bought for cheap and cut with a SIM card cutter and sold for an outrageous price. So I got ripped off. But it works.

If you bought it on Amazon, you can probably get your money back. And should, actually, if he didn't explicitly state that it was going to be a hack job.

You won't have to return it, just ask for a refund for mis-representing the item. If he won't, do an A-to-Z claim against him. I know Amazon, that should work spectacularly.

Your carrier should provide those. In the many years I've had a cell phone (starting with my Nokia 6800), I've never had to buy a sim separate from the phone, especially if it's a new line of service. For a different phone on an existing line, contacting the carrier will get you a SIM of the right size either for free or for a small charge.
80 bucks... anyone here could have told you that it was a scam, kind of like buying a HD TV antenna.

Wait, how did you buy it from HTC? Every link I can find on their web site, if buying a phone for a carrier in the US, points to the carrier themselves. Chances are that if you are on T-Mo, you might not even be able to access the HDSPA/LTE bands they use.

What kind of SIM did your old phone use? Mini?
Seriously though, if you haven't yet, get your money back if he sold it as a legit micro-SIM.

Huh. By the specs, it doesn't appear that you will be able to access the 3G data bands that TMobile uses, which is the company that StraightTalk buys it's signal from (at least, I believe they do). If it works for you, cool, I'm glad to be wrong.
I should be a bit more specific... TMobile uses GSM, which includes GPRS, UTMS, HSDPA, HSDPA+, and LTE for data and voice. By the specs on the page you listed, you will be able to use the base GSM for voice and GPRS for data (AKA 2G), but you won't be able to access the faster speeds, or use the data and talk at the same time, due to the bands that TMo had allocated to them when they were rolling out their 3G service (1700/2100).

I used the APN settings on Straight Talk's website for "AT&T Compatible Phones" and it just worked. Somehow...
