Has anyone else given "Return To Sol" a try?

I was able to get about halfway through it but then I ran into technical issues that I couldn't get through.  I am curious about how it ends.

I'm willing to have spoilers, does the GTVA defeat the Sol rebels?

What sorts of technical issues did you encounter?  We might be able to help you resolve them.

I'll try to get more info tomorrow, but here's some of it for now:

It was on the mission where you find the Ancient station with the shipwreck (that looks like a Raynor) nearby.  Soon after one of the pilots said (paraphrasing) "We're detecting something happening", the screen went black.  Then when it went back to my desktop there was an error box up that said something like (again, sorry I can't remember it all right now) that there was a problem with an Ancient fighter.  I believe it said the AF Olympia had only one primary bank but the model file lists two primary banks.  So there was some kind of compatibility error.

It must be a technical issue. I've never played the campaign, but it is apparently made for retail (and 3.6.9). Did you try without FSO builds?

Otherwise, you can try fixing the table/pof yourself. Shouldn't be too hard if you know what you're doing.

For some reason I can't get my retail FS2 to play (it says I don't have enough RAM when I have 12GB on my computer which is weird) so I have to try and play these campaigns through a FS2 Open.  I can't find the 3.6.9 it says I need so I have to try on later builds.

Known issue, retail FS2 doesn't like 64bits OSes (or simply having more RAM available than it can put into some variable that overflows).

Yeah, big RAM amounts translate into really big negative numbers in whatever value FS2 winds up calculating.

Considering you've got over 5 times more RAM than an average computer at the time had HD space, I'd say this is to be expected. :)

I played through it a few months ago. I also had some errors in a few missions, but the game always crashes then and i had an error message. Because i get the information what causes the error, i was able to fix them with FRED or sometimes with table editing. But i have also errors (in fact there were "bugs" during missions) during the predecessor Incursion. And there i was not able to fix all of them and was forced to use the FreeSpace2 webpage.
