Title: Small contribution: App hosting
Post by: technopredator on July 09, 2013, 09:30:05 am
From this page (http://i1262.photobucket.com/albums/ii620/technopredator/HLP/th_softwarehosting_zps00c6f557.jpg) (http://s1262.photobucket.com/user/technopredator/media/HLP/softwarehosting_zps00c6f557.jpg.html) you can see asking if you're a dev and when clicked on it they gave me banners to choose from and this HTML code:
Code: [Select]
<a href="http://tuneup-utilities.software.informer.com/download/" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://img.informer.com/images/v2/fastdnld_fuchsia.png" alt="Software Informer Download" height="51" width="255" /></a>
So I thought it might be helpful, cheers.

I'm pretty sure we would like our hosting arrangements for the SCP to be with someone we know and trust, but thanks anyway.

Besides, what kind of service are they providing, anyway? Is it just program indexing and up-to-date-keeping? If so, our own Launcher would provide that for us (And, as above, we're much more comfortable with solutions we can control to a great degree)....

I see, you're welcome. Well pretty much what you described and the 'Informer' app come with some freewares as a way to keep that and other software up to date, this kind of 'updaters' are becoming popular as I find them on freewares at install time. BTW, these are multi-updaters, will update the software/freeware it came with and all it can recognized installed on Windows as soon the updates are out with a tray icon message.

I don't have a clue about the hosting features, but this updater is one of the firsts, no spyware included and small, but I don't need them so I don't install any updater, but this one updates a big and growing amount of freewares, shareware, etc and giving is old and safe, I'd write that is pretty safe to use it and could aid you unload the bandwidth of updating when you guys release a new RC and you have massive downloads, and another mirror to popularize even more FS2, but if you it's not your way, it was just something I thought it might help you somehow, I don't have a clue how do you operate so I just throw it there for you if it's of any help/use.
